      Role Summary

      The Product Security team develops and implements security protections in the vehicle and supporting infrastructure. We are involved in the full chain of security from defining the requirements, planning software and hardware security, developing, deploying, and maintaining security protections.

      As a Staff Privacy Engineer in product security, this person will develop and scale services and infrastructure that are critical to ensuring the privacy of vehicle owners and operators. This engineer will help mentor team members and engineering partners in privacy best practices and help take the lead with our privacy roadmap and strategy. When performing these responsibilities, this engineer will work closely with security engineers across product security as well as with engineering partners from across the Software organization to ensure our user's privacy is protected. This role is flex onsite 3x a week out of either our Palo Alto, CA or Irvine, CA office and reports directly to the Sr. Manager Product Security Infrastructure.


      Responsibilities

      • Build, Support, and maintain in-house privacy critical services.
      • Help set privacy standards and demonstrate implementation of privacy best practices.
      • Help drive specification and implementation of new and ongoing privacy services.
      • Mitigate vulnerabilities found or reported by internal and external parties by aligning with company's goals and objectives.
      • Implement privacy/personal data protections to comply with regulations and industry standards.

      Qualifications

      • Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or similar field, or equivalent experience.
      • 8+ years of experience using modern programming languages such as Go or Python to develop production quality software.
      • Working understanding of modern cryptography and security best practices in software development.
      • 4+ years of work in Privacy Engineering, Security Engineering, or similar working with production software.
      • Expert-level knowledge of any of the following: privacy enhancing technologies, data classification, privacy enhancing techniques.
      • In-depth experience working cross-functionally with heterogeneous engineering teams to ensure the development of privacy critical services and policies.
      • Experience leading projects with ambiguous requirements from planning through completion.

      Pay Disclosure

      Salary Range/Hourly Rate for Palo Alto, California Based Applicants: $206,500.00 - 258,100.00 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
      Salary Range/Hourly Rate for Irvine, California Based Applicants: $190,000.00 - $237,500.00 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
