What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Provide technical leadership for the software and product experience layer of Toolforge
- Design and build platform software and user-facing workflows for tool creation and maintenance
- Lead the redesign of Toolforge’s tool creation and maintenance UI
- Define and implement best practices for common workloads, including Bots and Data-processing tools
- Mentor engineers and guide architectural decisions to raise engineering standards
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Extensive experience as a senior or Staff-level software engineer in platforms or developer tools
- Strong architectural skills across APIs, backend services, and user-facing workflows
- Proven experience in designing and building developer platforms and lifecycle tooling
- Ability to collaborate effectively across roles, including with SREs and volunteer contributors
- Comfort operating in open, distributed, and asynchronous environments
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience contributing to or leading open-source projects
- Familiarity with Toolforge or Wikimedia Cloud Services
- Strong interest in enhancing developer experience for technical contributors
