      Primary Purpose:

      The Nasher Museum of Art’s Visitor Services Coordinator is a dynamic, customer-service based supervising position that offers the opportunity to work in a contemporary art setting with an international reputation and record of diverse, engaging exhibitions. The Visitor Services Coordinator works with professional museum staff and expert art educators to deliver a positive and informed visitor experience while furthering their art history knowledge (with emphasis on modern/contemporary art), developing their customer service skills, and participating in the daily operations of a visual arts museum.

      The primary responsibility of a Visitor Services Coordinator is to perform excellent customer service and to ensure that Nasher staff representatives are following proper procedures as it relates to interactions with the visitors.

      Position Description:

      Full-time (40 hours per week) position at the Nasher Museum - Information Desk, Weekday/Weekends.

      Responsibilities:

      • Assist Visitor Service staff including:
        • Performing daily opening and/or closing procedures
          • Record and update daily admissions
          • Ensure the front desk is stocked with supplies and forms.
        • Provide customers with a welcoming introduction to the museum and offer exceptional customer service including:
          • Information on the museum’s exhibitions, events, collection, and policies
          • Offer hands-on assistance to special needs or handicapped visitors
          • Process tours and direct groups when needed
          • Handle phone inquiries and direct to the appropriate staff person, as needed
          • Process memberships and encourage visitor support
          • Assist with parking issues as needed
        • Follow staff policies and daily operational procedures
          • Check staff calendar updates, tour notes, and event notifications each shift
        • Participate in educational, exhibition, and staff opportunities
          • Attend trainings as assigned
          • Research artists, read prepared materials, shadow a group tour etc.
          • Promptly assist senior staff members with tasks, as needed
      • Assist Manager by providing on-site supervision to Visitor Service staff:
        • Plan and develop work schedules ensuring adequate coverage of the information desk and special event activities.
          • Assist with covering unfilled shifts when no other coverage is available.
        • Create/organize and provide training including onboarding, annual job training and quarterly front-line training.
        • Maintain and distribute monthly logs of activities (Daily admissions spreadsheet, Comprehensive Visitor Count, Zip code reports)
        • Monitor all written communications (email, Microsoft Teams, etc.)
        • Inform personnel of work priorities
      • Attended departmental meetings as assigned
      • Report all visitor related correspondents (comments, complaints, and incidents) and relay imperative information to the appropriate staff.
        • Create and distribute all approved email responses addressing complaints
      • Promote ADA compliance
        • Distinguishing service animals.
        • Reporting spills, leaks, or other safety concerns.
        • Utilizing golf cart or other mobility tools to ensure safety for mobility challenged visitors.
        • Creating and printing large font description booklets with each new exhibition.
        • Ensure building access is in accordance with ADA compliance.
      • Maintain the safety and cleanliness of the Great Hall and pavilions including:
        • Picking up trash and stickers from floor and benches
        • Notifying housekeeping when issue arise
        • Cleaning messes/spills (including bodily fluids) when housekeeping is unavailable.
        • Ensuring printed materials in galleries are clean and usable, requesting new materials when needed.
      • Work a flexible schedule, including weekends, special/after-hours events as needed.
      • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

      Minimum Qualifications:

      • Must be reliable, responsible, dependable and able to fulfill obligations.
      • Strong desire to interact with the public and assist visitors from diverse backgrounds, being courteous, professional, patient, and respectful at all times.
      • Minimum of 2-years related experience and/or training in customer services or museum-oriented field.
      • Minimum of 2-years of supervisory experience preferred.

      Knowledge, Skills and Ability:

      • Organizational and problem-solving skills needed
      • Strong customer service/hospitality experience
      • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required with the ability to clearly speak and understand the English language
        • Bi-lingual a plus
      • Ability and eagerness to work with diverse audience/staff
      • Ability to lead by example
      • A background or experience with Art History or Visual Arts preferred.
      • Experience using personal computers with a strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Windows applications.
      • The scope of this position requires weekday and weekend workdays.
        • Ability to assist in late night, weekend, holiday and after-hour events as needed.

      Education:

      • Work requires communication and comprehension skills normally acquired through a high school education.
        • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
