      Reports To: Senior Director of Patient Advocacy & Housing Services

      Pay Range: $60/hour

      Total Compensation:

      In addition to standard pay, compensation for this position includes:

      Position Overview:

      JFS is looking for a compassionate, mission-driven individual to join the Desert team as a Staff Support Specialist. In this role, you have the opportunity to use your management skills and human resources experience to make a meaningful difference in your community and help change lives across Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. The Staff Support Specialist plays an integral role in the team and supports the entire agency by assisting with change management. This would involve measuring and understanding employees' readiness for change, and assisting them with managing change, and team transitions. This position reports directly to the Senior Director of Patient Advocacy & Housing Services and works closely with the Director of Supportive Housing and the rest of the desert team.

      Responsibilities :

      • Assist with employee recruitment, hiring, and retention
      • Provide supervisors with extensive training on how to manage difficult employees including employee counseling, documentation, and discipline (“Soft Skills”)
      • Work with employees and supervisors to set goals, offer feedback, and keep employees engaged
      • Assist with change management. This would involve measuring and understanding employees' readiness for change, and assisting them with managing change, and team transitions. This is particularly relevant in light of recent management changes
      • Assess areas related to gaps in skill sets and how to manage those
      • Ethical judgment and integrity training
      • Interpersonal skills training as they relate to co-workers and supervisors
      • Conflict resolution training and support
      • Reviewing HR regs, particularly with supervisors
      • Review written correspondence as it relates to staff supervision and disciplinary issues
      • Provide a sound board for staff who have HR-related issues
      • Make appropriate recommendations to HR concerning staff leaves of absence, drug testing, and disciplinary actions
      • Help employees understand cultural differences, biases, and power dynamics
      • In conjunction with HR management staff, prep employees for EEO/workers comp claim meetings/hearings
      • Disseminate information from HR management to desert staff
      • Assure that HR materials are up to date, such as required postings and forms
      • Provide pre/post surveys to measure employee knowledge

      Skills/Experience/Abilities That Are a Must-Have:

      • Knowledge of and experience with motivational interviewing preferred
      • Must be able to pass a Livescan, background check and drug test
      • Must have at least two years’ experience providing HR services and experience working in a non-profit environment
      • Must have one of the following certifications: PHR (Professional in Human Resources), SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources), or APHR (Associate Professional in Human Resources)
      • Two years’ experience in providing HR Support
      • Ability to be a team player with a flexible and creative approach
      • Excellent written and oral communication skills
      • Must be able to work remotely with occasional travel to Palm Springs
      • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook
      • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to the mission of JFS
      • Excellent spelling, grammar, and written communication skills

      Skills/Abilities We’d Like You to Have :

      • A SHRM certified professional
      • Bilingual
      • Highly organized in a fast-moving environment
      • Successful track record in setting priorities, shaping processes, managing staff and systems, and developing an infrastructure that creates a stronger and more efficient organization
      • Ability to support, cultivate, and anticipate the needs of the Supportive Housing programs in relationships to partnerships and strategic alliances
      • Excellent telephone and oral communication skills.
      • Ability to analyze data

      Physical Requirements:

      • Must be able to use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls
      • Lift up to 25 lbs
      • Reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; and talk and hear
      • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
