      Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.

      Position Summary:

      The idealcandidate will join a vibrant and inclusive educational community and have adesire and ability to work with a diverse population. This is a part-time, student employmentposition with no benefits.
      A STEM Starter Academy SummerProgram Assistant serves to support faculty and assist students enrolled in theSTEM Starter Academy Summer Program (SSASP) which will be held virtually fromAugust 11 through August 22, 2025. SSASP is a free, non-credit, intensivemath review and student success program which runs virtually Monday-Friday from9 am to 1 pm. There are two on-campus sessions, one each week of the programfrom 3-5 on our Wellesley Hills campus. Program Assistants are expected toattend one of the two on-campus days.

      SSASP provides students with2 1/2 hours of math review each day as well as programs on study and collegesuccess skills, career and transfer programs and an early opportunity to meetSTEM faculty, staff and students. Most students are recent high schoolgraduates, but there are adult learners new to college as well.

      Program Assistants are expected towork daily from approximately 8:45 am - 12:15 pm; they assist students who need1:1 help as well as provide support to the instructors. They also assist withprogram execution and provide administrative support as necessary. ProgramAssistants are selected on the basis of academic success, communication andinterpersonal skills, leadership experience, organizational skills andwillingness to work with and foster an interest in students new to STEMeducation and careers. Program Assistants receive mentoring from thefaculty delivering the program and serve as peer mentors to the new STEMstudents.

      Key Responsibilities and Duties:
      • Support the goals of the STEM Division and STEM Starter Academy as they relate to retention of students new to STEM and MassBay;
      • Assist instructors with the delivery of the program;
      • Provide individual and small group assistance to students enrolled in the program;
      • Assist Project Director with noontime workshops;
      • Share personal interest and educational experiences with enrolled students;
      • Work to foster an excitement among participants about STEM education and careers;
      • Provide consistency to students new to STEM and MassBay;
      • Serve as a positive role model for students;
      • Encourage student participation in program;
      • Follow the policies and regulations regarding student behaviors as stated in the student code of conduct;
      • Promote and demonstrate respect for all students, inclusive of all races, ages, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, religions, and abilities.

      Required Qualifications:
      • Completed at least 9 hours of college credit;
      • Commitment for two+ weeks which will include a few organizational meetings prior to the beginning of the program as well as from August 11 through August 22;
      • Strong academic record, interpersonal and communication skills.

      Preferred Qualifications:
      • Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action and workforce diversity;
      • Experience working in a diverse environment;
      • Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved students.

      Additional Information:

      Salary Range: $19 per hour
