      Req#: R0235321
      Location: Singapore, Singapore

Thales people architect solutions that are relied upon to deliver operational advantage at every decisive moment throughout the mission. Defence and armed forces customers rely on us to deliver the full range of defensive systems for land, sea, and air. From early warning, to threat neutralisation, our platforms cover all levels from very short-range systems, to extended protection across the entire battle-space including Airspace Mobility Solutions, Vehicles and Tactical Systems and Missile Defence, Optronics, and Radar.

Thales established its presence in Singapore in 1973 to support the expansion of aerospace-related activities in the Asia-Pacific region. Throughout the last four decades, the company grew from strength to strength and is today involved in the primary businesses of Aerospace (including Air Traffic Management), Defence & Security, Ground Transportation and Digital Identity & Security. Thales today employs over 2,100 people in Singapore across all its business areas.

      About AIR Lab

Established in Nov 2019, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) and Thales launched the S$30 million research lab in Singapore as a key nexus to accelerate the innovation and collaboration between CAAS and Thales for the next generation of Air Traffic Management (ATM).

Co-steered by the senior management from CAAS and Thales, AIR Lab is leveraging open and advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to develop and demonstrate future Air Traffic Management (ATM) Proof-of-Concepts (POCs). The POCs in AIR Lab intend to allow quick integration of the new innovations that are developed into an ATM System. AIR Lab is also co-located with the Thales Digital Factory to synergise with the digital transformation efforts in Thales.

First successful innovations created is the Open ATM API that have already enabled collaborations with third parties, the Secure Data Bridge to safely extract live information from the operational LORADS III system.

In 2021 AIR Lab expanded, quadrupling its size to create its first product: the ATM Twin.

Following the successful first 4 years, AIR Lab would be expanding its scope to develop POCs for the APAC region.

      Fostering Partnerships

AIR Lab’s first Proof-of-Concept (POC) project was to demonstrate having Changi’s current ATM system built on the cloud and its architecture opened-up through the development of standardised Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) that enable data exchanges between the system and third parties.

Through the AIR Lab, Thales and CAAS can therefore more easily collaborate with start-ups, universities and other research facilities to test how their capabilities interact with the system. The key benefit is not only more efficient collaboration but also a reduced Time-To-Market (TTM) for the development of new functionalities that will significantly support ATCs.

In the first 4 years, AIR Lab has successfully work with local partners to run accelerator programmes and media campaigns to solicit partnerships with startups, universities and research institutes on ATM use cases.

The Ecosystem Partnerships Lead role within AIR Lab

      • The Ecosystem Partnership Lead will champion the collaboration and manage the projects with local enterprises and internal stakeholders in the joint lab. The incumbent would be structuring the partnership models and engagement strategies/ plans with the local enterprises (e.g. such as organising hackathons, meetups) to partner the joint lab by providing their services on the open ATM Platform.
      • The incumbent would need to interact with the local ecosystem (e.g. enterprises, RIs/ IHLs such as ATMRI, ASI, A*Star) to synergise collaboration efforts with the joint lab towards delivering innovative and cost-effective ATM solutions for Singapore.
      • The incumbent needs to lobby and coordinate with Thales internal stakeholders on collaboration projects.
      • When required, the incumbent should act as the conduit to guide the local enterprises towards securing the resources to effectively partner the joint lab in delivering the services (e.g. working with ESG).

      • The incumbent needs to manage AIR Lab’s external events with the ecosystem.
      • The incumbent will need to organise meetings and arrange visits to AIR Lab.

      • Keenly familiar with the development in the local ATM and/ or technology landscape and the development roadmap of the open platforms to be effectively in introducing the suitable local partners for the joint lab.
      • Good understanding on the construct and effective engagement strategies/ plans with local enterprises (e.g. SMEs, Start-ups) to bring about successful partnerships with the local partners.
