      Brief Description of Role & Responsibility:
      This co-op position offers the opportunity to spend your workday designing and programming microcontroller circuits that will be integrated into 3D printed cases and silicone medical trainers. You will work with a team of design engineers, 3D printing specialists, medical artists, research scientists, and clinical investigators, with a focus on developing custom electromechanical devices to meet varied requests from the hospital and research facilities. Be ready to overcome technical difficulties and be a part of a team that’s dedicated to improving the outcomes of our patients.

      This is a full-time, temporary co-op assignment running from May 11, 2026 through August 7, 2026.

      Skills

      • Microcontroller programming: Arduino-based coding (Arduino IDE, Python, etc.)

      • Raspberry Pi and MATLAB programming (coding a plus)

      • DC circuit design at the component level and ability to assemble/solder

      • Electronic component integration into custom cases/hardware

      • Experience with hand tools

      • General building skills

      • Safety-minded

      • 3D printing experience

      • STEM program involvement

      • Willingness to troubleshoot technical issues and find solutions

      • A love for sci-fi is a plus, but curiosity and creativity are what matter most

      LEARN

      • Learn the daily routines of healthcare/research investigators, foster career interests in healthcare/research.

      • Gain experience and awareness of the academic, technical and personal skills required in healthcare/research professions.

      • Gain an understanding of different health/research careers, including the cultures and work environments that can be unique to a particular healthcare/research profession.

      • Develop an understanding of the critical connections between education, work and goal attainment.

      • Comply with policies and procedures protecting patient rights for informed consent and the handling of confidential information as defined by Cincinnati Children's mission and applicable laws and regulations.

      • Complete Cincinnati Children's training required for the position.

      • Adhere to safe work practices.

      • Understand, adhere to and model Core Standards as defined organizationally and specifically within the department / unit.

      JOB QUALIFICATIONS

      • Must be currently enrolled in a degree granting college program.
