      A Day in the Life…
      The Student Talent Development Specialist coaches students and recent graduates on the fundamentals of career development and job search techniques, provides guidance to support further education and/or advanced employment preparation in order to increase the probability of employability within the job market and/or success with applications to further education. Working collaboratively within Co-op, Career and Experiential Education, the Student Talent Development Specialist achieves strategic department priorities which contributes to providing a transformational and accessible academic and university experience for students.

      As the Student Talent Development Specialist, you will:

      • Assist students and recent graduates with identifying career options through critical reflection to build on individual capabilities and confidence, overcome employment barriers and strategize on how to market themselves effectively;
      • Proactively coach students and recent graduates on how to translate past experience into professional skills;
      • Understand current labour market, career development, recruitment/selection trends, student employment and workplace issues and utilize up-to-date market information to coach students and recent graduates;
      • Actively recommend and promote solutions, services and plans of action to students based on analysis of their progress in their talent development;
      • Ensure effective and seamless transitions within CCEE regarding students’ progress of their talent development as they move through their career/co-op journey;
      • Report on student satisfaction and provide feedback on opportunities to enhance students’ satisfaction to our service;
      • Collaborate with the Curriculum Development Specialist and CCEE Talent Development team to research and create resources that address student career development needs;
      • Adopt positive coaching and critical reflection techniques to help students develop high quality job search documents within set timelines and effective interview techniques that are essential for the success of the job search process;
      • Keep team members apprised of progress, issues, and concerns regarding students’ probability of success when appropriate;
      • Maintain the student information database for qualitative and quantitative information on students’ training and development;
      • Participate, represent and support work related activities that may require attendance outside of normal working hours; including but not limited to: Ontario Universities Fair – Toronto, Spring Open House – on campus, Fall Open House – on campus and the Co-op Professional Preparation Course.

      Travel to locations that may not be accessible by public transportation is an essential component of this position; access to a reliable means of transportation is required.

      What you need to Succeed…

      • An undergraduate degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience;
      • Valid G class driver's license and an acceptable driver's abstract;
      • Knowledge of career development methods and practices;
      • Knowledge of industry trends and labour market demand for all co-op programs;
      • Knowledge of academic curriculum and be able to connect to labour market trends;
      • Positive coaching approach to provide constructive feedback;
      • Extensive knowledge of advanced standards for resume preparation and current interviewing trends;
      • Excellent MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) skills;
      • Ability to work with diverse groups, advising, coaching, and strategizing career planning objectives;
      • Strong customer service orientation and developed interpersonal skills;
      • Proven ability to organize and handle a variety of projects, deadlines, and schedules simultaneously and independently;

      • Ability to think critically with the ability to leverage existing resources to solve problems.

      Preferred or Asset Skills…

      • Career Development Practitioner’s Certification;
      • Human Resources Certification;
      • Career Coaching/Mentoring training certification;
      • Professional resume writing.

      Salary and Benefit Information

      • Job Grade (J), Salary Scale ($52,920-$90,720)*;
      • Target Hiring Range: $52,920-$53,000.

      *The salary range indicated is representative of all positions evaluated at this level. Actual salary is determined by assessing related skills, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness, subject to available budget.
