- Evidence of a clear record as determined by the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation (BCII).
- Demonstrated maturity and experience working with, or evidence of the ability to work with school age children.
- Utilizes good judgment under routine and stressful work conditions
- Basic understanding of first aid is desirable.
- Communicate school rules to students. Maintain high standards for student conduct and enforce discipline according to school policy and the due process rights of students.
- Initiate group activities and organized play. Emphasize fair play, citizenship, respect, and courtesy.
- Provide positive feedback to motivate students to develop and maintain appropriate behavior. Report discipline problems to the appropriate authority.
- Offer help to students when assistance is indicated. Avoid being intrusive.
- During an emergency, stay with and attend to the needs of the injured child. Send for immediate assistance.
- Report any unsafe conditions to the building principal.
- Initiate action to protect students during adverse weather conditions.
- Be watchful for unusual or suspicious activities that may be harmful for students and staff (e.g., strangers, unusual behavior, crowds, children displaying distress, etc.). Report concerns to principal immediately.
- Promote the proper care of school property, equipment, supplies, and other materials.
- Develop rapport and maintain the confidence of staff and students.
- Serve as a role model for students. Demonstrate responsibility, citizenship, respect, and courtesy.
- Perform other duties, as directed.
- Ability to move freely throughout the building and grounds.
- Ability to lift, carry, or move equipment or supplies weighing up to twenty pounds.
- Ability to work with young children in activities that may require stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
- Ability to communicate effectively using language and writing skills.
- Ability to maintain a non-punitive relationship with students and demonstrate fairness and patience while respecting their confidences.
- Ability to react productively to frequent interruptions and changing conditions.
- Ability to organize and complete tasks efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to maintain a tactful disposition in dealing with administrators, staff, students, parents, and the public.

2 Hours per Day – 10:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.
$14.05 to 15.61 per hour - Commensurate with experience
Bargaining Unit employees hired prior to 9/1/2016 will be paid on the salary schedule in accordance with the OAPSE Negotiated Agreement
(Please note: The person hired for this position will be required to obtain a Student Monitor Permit, issued through the Ohio Department of Education. - The cost for the permit is $25, and must be renewed on an annual basis.)

Responsible for monitoring students’ behavior in the cafeteria, gymnasium, playground and/or study hall. Supervise unstructured recreational periods.
