      SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT—JOB COACH

      TEMPORARY, PART-TIME, GRANT-FUNDED POSITION

      May 2025

      INTERNAL ONLY

      POSITION: Summer Youth Employment (SYE) JOB COACH

      JOB SUMMARY: The Job Coach supports students with disabilities and their families by providing assistance at one or more work locations in and near Calvert County during a summer program. The Job Coach also maintains relationships with local businesses and organizations that partner with Calvert County Public Schools in providing these job experiences. The Job Coach supports students with disabilities as they acquire job skills by participating in work-based experiences. This position is funded by the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) by way of the Summer Youth Employment (SYE) grant. The Job Coach also helps manage external employer relationships, gathers information for dissemination to keep Calvert County Public Schools and DORS staff informed of student progress and the employer satisfaction.

      REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Special Education or Designee

      EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

      At the time of application, the candidate must have:

      1. High school diploma or GED, at a minimum.
      2. Excellent customer service skills.
      3. Excellent communication skills, professional demeanor, sound judgment, and strong organizational skills.
      4. Capacity to work independently in the field, and a willingness to work collaboratively.
      5. Understanding of disabilities and how to support young adults with disabilities.

      KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:

      1. Knowledge of employment skills and matching student interest with job opportunities.
      2. Dependable car, valid driver’s license, and proof of insurance.
      3. Ability to work flexible hours.
      4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Calvert County Public Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
      5. Demonstrates success in accomplishing tasks akin to those responsibilities listed below.

      ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

      1. Customize employment opportunities to meet the needs of youth with varied employment backgrounds.
      2. Manage employer relationships to promote retention of youth and creation of new jobs.
      3. Form partnerships with local employers to provide supportive work environments for youth with disabilities who need more structured employment experiences.
      4. Monitor students and provide support through collaboration with employers.
      5. Enter data to support program evaluation and outcomes tracking.
      6. Ensure proper and timely documentation of services including written case notes.
      7. Work collaboratively with colleagues across the organization, primarily with the Secondary Transition Specialist.
      8. Thinks, concentrates, and interacts positively with others.
      9. Comes to work regularly and promptly.
      10. Works under stress and meets all deadlines.

      OTHER DUTIES: Duties listed are not intended to be all inclusive nor limit duties that might reasonably be assigned. Performs related work as required or assigned by the supervisor or designee.

      PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Position requires significant periods of standing and walking and is performed in various work settings within the community or in a typical school environment. Position may require supporting students in outdoor work environments.

      TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Temporary, grant-funded, part-time position. From 5 and up to 30 hours per week. $47.00 per hour. Job runs June 23rd through August 7, 2025, with flexible and individual schedules. Position is contingent on continued grant funding.

      References must be directly related to educational experience and must include immediate supervisor.

      State law requires that anyone hired after October 1, 1986, who will have contact with school children, must be fingerprinted and submit to a criminal background investigation. Federal law requires that a new employee must complete the Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9) in person before beginning employment. Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a drug screen. Current employees of the Calvert County Public Schools are exempt from these requirements.
