      Job Description:

      Reporting to the Manager, Graphics and Visualization, the Supervisor will be responsible for a team of technical professionals responsible for the production of graphic and visualization materials, legislative (Official Plan and Zoning maps) and thematic mapping directly linked to City Planning initiatives. The supervisor will also take carriage of city-wide functions and/or programs assigned to the district office.

      • Supervises, motivates and provides formal and/or informal training to assigned staff, ensures effective teamwork, high standards of work quality and organizational performance, foster a continuous learning environment and encourages innovation in others.
      • Supervises the day to day operation of a district office including the scheduling, assigning and reviewing of work. Authorizes and coordinates vacation and overtime requests. Monitors and evaluates staff performance and recommends disciplinary action when necessary. Liases with external clients including the architectural community, developers and lawyers, regarding data exchange.
      • Ensures that end products are fully AODA compliant and comprehensible to all end users, including City officials, the public, developers, special interest groups and the media. Ensures that complicated, time sensitive and confidential materials are handled with discretion.
      • Provides input into and administers assigned budget, ensuring that expenditures are controlled and maintained within approved budget limitations.
      • Supervises and coordinates the production of legislative mapping including the maintenance of the mapping components of the Zoning Bylaw(s), including schedules for Council approval. Co-ordinates the distribution of data including posting to the corporate WEB site, social media and open data
      • Ensures that the district unit meets standards for client service in terms of quality and timeline in the production of maps and other graphic materials by providing technology, technical and design leadership to assigned staff and clients of the district office
      • Represents and liases with district clients concerning graphics and presentation products and services.
      • Provides recommendations with respect to section's policy, procedures and systems to meet identified needs and requirements
      • Provides input and expertise for the design and implementation of existing and future program enhancement
      • Takes a hands on graphic lead role in major projects, post-implementation reviews and provides on-going feedback

      Key Qualifications:

      1. Post-secondary education in a discipline pertinent to the job function, such as Planning, Architecture, Geomatics, Design and Communication or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
      2. Considerable experience within the visual communication field, related to planning, urban design and architecture e.g. community consultation, technical illustration, legislative mapping and planning evidence.
      3. Experience supervising staff (e.g. leading, motivating, coaching, monitoring and evaluating performance), with ability to promote and foster teamwork, and establish an environment for success.
      4. Considerable experience in architectural and planning communication, rendering, data visualization, geomatics/cartography and graphic design.
      5. Considerable experience using a wide range of GIS, CAD and Graphic Design specialized applications (e.g. ArcGIS, Microstation, Autocad, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, MS Office, social media; and business applications, such as IBMS).
      6. Ability to plan the allocation and use of staff, funds, technology processes and facilities.
      7. Highly developed organizational, analytical, problem-solving, customer service, adaptability and accountability skills.
      8. Communication and interpersonal skills to deliver presentation materials and define objectives to end users for the preparation/implementation of graphics projects.
      9. Knowledge of legislation, such as the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Accessibility for Ontarian with Disabilities Act, and other related policies and regulations.
