Job Description

- Support the Heads of Environment and Sustainability managers on the execution of our group environment strategy.
- Support in determining our ‘position’ on key issues, working across the brands and channels to coordinate the company position and to determine ways to embed, train, manage and coordinate within the company.
- Support to compile and draft approaches, policies and standards for internal sign-off and update as and when required to maintain Sainsbury’s agreed position for given impact areas.
- Support in embedding our sourcing strategy and ensure commercial teams and suppliers are aligned to our values and strategy; through supporting and embedding the approach ‘in the line’ and directly through supply chains
- Deal with issues management ensuring clear escalation and recommendations on approach on all environmental issues.
- Ensure effective internal and external communications, providing content for communications teams.
- Develop appropriate, relevant training content for suppliers and colleagues.
- Budget management and effective business case development for sustainability programmes
- Respond to colleague and external queries on sustainability drafting accurate and effective responses for sign off which show a thoughtful and balanced position.
- Support relevant stakeholders to embed and deliver the Group’s environment strategy, including colleagues and suppliers
- Familiar with the complexities of a large customer-focused business, delivering results at a rapid pace
- Knowledge of relevant networks and stakeholders in the field of sustainability
- Experience of managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders, including budgets
- Familiar with risk assessment and management, prioritising activities in an environment of competing priorities
- Ability to work flexibly around an evolving agenda
- Degree and experience in the management of environmental risks in supply chains, preferably within the food or General Merchandise and Clothing sector
