  General Purpose:

  The Candy Associate provides customer-friendly service to our valuable customers and provides the quality products that Adams is known for. This means fulfilling customer requests, keeping all displays stocked and rotated, keeping the department clean, and being the final line for quality control in the department.

  FLSA Status: Non-exempt

  Reports to: Candy Manager, Candy Supervisor

  Job Description:

  • Ensure that customers receive the best customer service by providing friendly, polite, and knowledgeable service
  • Greet customers personally and thank them appreciatively for shopping at Adams
  • Wrap selections, label ingredients, and price and bag all items that are repackaged
  • Rotate products to keep older product in front and stock cases and displays, making sure product is correctly labeled and there are no empty spaces
  • Be familiar with available product, including specialty products such as sugar-free, gluten-free, and products from nut-free facilities
  • Rotate all products to ensure freshness at all times and regularly check all products for quality
  • Receive and put away deliveries; check weights for accuracy and match inventory to bill
  • Take customer orders both in person and on the phone; if assigned, take corporate orders
  • Inform manager or supervisor when inventory is running low
  • Be the final line for quality control: look for packaging issues, sell-by dates,
    and be vigilant about quality and presentation of all products put out for sale
  • Empty cases and shelves to clean them and load with oldest product in front
  • Keep all areas of the department clean and organized, including sales floor, cases, preparation and production areas
  • When a customer needs assistance, give the customer priority over the task at hand
  • If assigned, assist with merchandising the candy displays
  • If assigned, train new associates
  • If assigned, fill self-serve bins
  • If assigned, make dipped chocolates and lollipops
  • If applicable, make specialty drinks, smoothies, shakes and serve ice cream

  Physical Requirements:

  • Consistently lift and move 50 pounds
  • Stand for the duration of the shift
  • Climb up and down a stepstool, stepladder, and ladder
  • Use hands, wrists, fingers and arms for duration of shift
  • Safely operate equipment necessary to run the department
  • Use the compactor and cardboard crusher for disposing of garbage and recycling (age 18+ only)

  Qualifications:

  • Communicate clearly with customers and co-workers
  • Employees are our internal customers; treat them with the same courtesy and respect as our external customers
  • Must work efficiently and at a productive pace per department needs
  • Must be able to work scheduled shift
  • Follow all department safety policies and procedures
  • Be able to concentrate on tasks in order to avoid injury and waste of product
  • Be knowledgeable about Adams product- recommend ideas to customers by exploring customer preferences and advocating Adams product
