Anne Arundel County Government is hiring for a full-time, permanent Tax Credit Coordinator (Accountant I) position within the Office of Finance.
This is entry-level professional accounting work in maintaining and reviewing county fiscal records.
NATURE AND VARIETY OF WORKWork involves responsibility for performing professional accounting functions at the journeyman level in a central accounting unit or in a major county department. Work includes numerous varied accounting and related tasks, including providing guidance and direction to and reviewing the work of subordinates when assigned. Work is performed independently within established policies, procedures, and accounting techniques, and is reviewed by professional superiors through conferences, reports, audits, and internal controls.(Note: The duties and responsibilities enumerated in this class specification are for the purpose of determining a common set of minimum qualifications and salary levels for all positions in this class. Performs accounting work such as allocation of indirect costs from service departments to operating departments; maintenance of fixed assets; reconciliation of bank statements with the county general ledger; establishing procedures for collection of personal property taxes; maintaining controls and financial records; maintaining controls reflecting funds available for debt retirement and/or investments.
Prepares journal entries and supporting data.
Prepares income and expense statements for interdepartmental fund account transfers; verifies cash and checks registers.
Participates in the central payroll function as directed; performs internal payroll audits; prepares analyses of capital payment accounts; and supervises associated activities as required.
Prepares and maintains statements, records, and reports.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of accounting principles, procedures, and processes governing monies' receipt, custody, and expenditure.
Knowledge of governmental accounting principles and practices.
Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, equipment, and standard clerical techniques as applied to the maintenance of accounting systems.
Ability to prepare and maintain a variety of routine accounting and related records and reports.
Ability to analyze and solve a variety of routine accounting and fiscal problems.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, other county employees, and the public.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Skill in operating a calculator and CRT terminal.Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university, with major course work in accounting.
Note: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in accounting may be substituted with an Associate's degree or 60 college credits with major coursework in accounting and two (2) or more years of experience in accounting and financial operations.

For a University or College outside the United States, the applicant must provide documentation of accreditation and educational equivalency, which can be accomplished through a credential evaluation service. Applicants with a foreign degree must provide this documentation upon the close of the announcement.Preference will be given to applicants with the following:1. Four (4) or more years of experience in accounting and financial operations.2. Experience with real property tax credits and/or real property tax billing.3.
