The Department of Corrections is currently recruiting to fill a Teacher - Higher Education in Prison (HEP) position. This position is based out of Taycheedah Correctional Institution in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.
Position Summary
This position will this position will facilitate Higher Education in Prison (HEP) enrollments, maintain technical competence and working relationships with college partners and other staff. Duties include assisting current and potential students through the HEP enrollment, registration and financial aid processes; arrange orientation, informational sessions, assist with tutoring, technical and computer troubleshooting. Serve as the primary point of contact for HEP technology devices and perform other duties as assigned. This instructor will also provide class scheduling related services for the institution's diverse inmate population to prepare them for enrollment into the educational services, which includes performing either TABE (Tests of Adult Basic Education) or GED testing and interpreting the results to inmates and staff as needed. This position serves as an alternate General Equivalency Diploma (GED) examiner and maintains current and historical GED/HSED testing records. This position will also complete all required documentation of student assessment/progress and other reporting requirements in a timely manner, monitor and manage student behavior, attend staffing and meetings, and serve effectively as an interdisciplinary team member for the Education complex. This teacher will provide training to others and engage in specialized instruction and projects upon request. Taycheedah Correctional Institution (TCI) is an adult female medium security facility.
Salary Information
This position is in pay schedule/range 13-04 with a starting pay rate of $29.13/hour, plus excellent benefits. Pay on appointment for current state employees may vary according to the applicable pay transaction provisions of the State Compensation Plan, Wisconsin Administrative Code, and statutes. A twelve-month probationary period is required.

Job Details
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.
The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.
The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.
This position is not eligible for remote work.
Qualifications
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must meet the Wisconsin Technical College System and Higher Learning Commission faculty qualification requirements as a Teacher of Personal Computer Operation/Computer Software, certification number 103.
To be eligible for certification, candidate's must meet the following: Associate's degree; 2 years (4,000 hours) of occupational experience in the computer software field, of which at least one year (2,000 hours) shall have been acquired within five years prior to the date of appointment. One year (2,000 hours) of related occupational experience may be waived if the occupational instructor has at least two years of post-secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within five years prior to the date of appointment (two years of post-secondary teaching experience means eight semesters of part-time teaching or four semesters of full-time teaching at an accredited institution).
