Job Description

- Minimum one year of experience working with individuals with complex cognitive behavioural challenges.
- Have prior supervisory experience in this field.
- Valid Certification in Emergency First Aid and CPR.
- Clear Criminal Record Check, Adult and Child Abuse registry check valid in the last 3months.
- Minimum Grade Twelve education, preferably post-secondary, Developmental Service Worker Certificate, or a combination of related education/experience
- Possess a working knowledge of Residential Care Licensing, Family Services and Labour guidelines.
- Strong Knowledge and demonstration of the guidelines of the Vulnerable Person’s Act (VPA).
- Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
- Above average communication skills (both verbal and oral), organizational skills, the ability to work effectively within a team environment, sound decision making abilities and the capacity to work with minimal supervision.
- Level 6 English (CLB).
- Ability to foster a team approach within the home.
- Develop and maintain positive and effective communication with the individual(s) and their families, management, co-workers and all others that are involved in the individual’s care;
- Complete the necessary records and documentation in accordance with CBI policies and procedures, Residential Care and Licensing and department of family Services and Labour requirements;
- Maintain and review established logs (individual and communication log books, medical records food intake forms, progress notes, evaluation of programs) on a daily basis and address any needs or concerns;
- Read all meeting minutes, log entries, incident reports, and memos;
- Ensure that all employees are documenting information according to acceptable Residential Care Licensing (RCL) and company guidelines;
- Prepare/review Incident Reports and ensure that they are submitted to the Residential Operations Manager in a timely manner;
- Attend and participate in all relevant meetings (i.e: staff meetings , individual planning, PATHs,) and identified training courses;
- Reflect staffing changes on the monthly schedule and notify the office of these changes as they occur;
- Complete weekly management logs and submit them to the Residential Operations Manager;
- Attend house inspections completed by the office representatives or licensing authority
- Complete regular performance evaluations for all employees who work in the home;
- Abide by confidentiality parameters.
- Become Knowledgeable of the safety features and operation of all equipment in the home and ensure that all equipment is in safe working order.
- Ensure that the condition of the home is kept up to licensing standards and report the need for any repairs or maintenance directly to the Residential Operations Manager. This includes following any/all recommendations that are suggested by Management.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of internal fire regulations and emergency procedures;
- Schedule and participate in monthly fire drills;
- Ensure that hazardous materials and refuse are stored and disposed of properly;
- Ensure safe storage of medications ;
- Ensure that food is handled safely and stored properly;
- Ensure adequate supervision in identified risk areas;
- Minimize risk and report and respond to unsafe conditions;
- Recognize and respond to concerns of abuse and neglect.
- Ensure that the physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual needs of the individual(s) are being met;
- Follow all current instructions from professional (Doctors, Physiotherapists, Dieticians, etc.);
- Develop/follow a meal plan for the individual(s), giving special consideration to individuals who are on a restricted Ensure that food is handled and stored safely;
- Administer medications accurately and ensure documentation is correct;
- Order medications medical supplies and other supplies are necessary;
- Follow procedures for infection control;
- Perform household functions as required such as cleaning, cooking, garbage disposal, vacuuming, dusting, yard work,
- Assist the individual(s) with all aspects of daily living needs;
- Encourage individual independence, choice and self-expression;
- Act as a role model to assist the individual in the development of life skills;
- Implement actions plans as per the individual support plan;
- Encourage and assist the individual to participate in the daily activities and responsibilities of their personal life and their home;
- Ensure that the day to day programming, social events, appointments for the individual(s) are planned and followed through.
- Become knowledgeable of the individual’s skills, abilities, interests and care level;
- Support access to community options which promote participation and presence;
- Assist the individual (s) in the development of friendships and positive relationships within the community by the utilizing principles of normalization and inclusion;
- Teach and assist the individual to develop positive social interactions;
- Plan and provide leisure activities.
- Assist the individual with the management of personal funds on a day-to-day basis;
- Keep accurate records of house petty cash and/or the individual’s personal cash, balance both on a daily basis and submit to the office at the end of the month;
- Organize individual banking (may include acting as a co-signer);
- Order and/or purchase house groceries and supplies, keeping within the budget.
- Respect and protect the individual’s personal belongings, home, furnishings, equipment, decorations, etc.;
- Adhere to the policies and procedures of the individuals care plan, the Vulnerable Person’s Act, Residential Care Licensing standards, the company Employee Handbook, and all other pertinent legislation (i.e. Human Rights Code, Etc.) and immediately report any infractions of the above;
- Accept responsibility to fulfill all scheduled shifts;
- Provide assistance to employees if they are having difficulty finding a replacement employee to work an assigned shift that they are unable to work themselves. Employee must have a valid reason for not being able to fulfill their own shift;
- Organize monthly house meeting, notify the Residential Operations Manager of these meetings, and provide a list of the employees who will be attending;
- Provide Orientation and training to new and existing employees as required.
The Team Leader plays an integral part of the service delivery for the individuals that we support by providing leadership and guidance in a cooperative team oriented approach. The Team Leader is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day functioning of the individual(s) and staff within the home.
This role is to fill a Maternity Leave Contract of up to 8 months
