Job Description

Review and interprets complex drawings, plans, submittals, physical samples and specifications for compliance with relevant codes, standards and requirements; conferring with Engineers, Architects and Project Officers as appropriate.
Conducts site visits, inspecting field construction sites/facilities to ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards and makes checks of work in progress.
Reviews and processes the required records, inspections and documents for project closeout.
Prepares detailed inspection reports that are transmitted to the Project Officers.
Assist the Application Processing Unit for permit issuance, DOB Now, Violations, Sign-offs.
Serve as liaison with Department of Building personnel and other authorities as assigned, to receive and process required paperwork associated with projects.
Maintains computerized records of files & reports on the progress of projects (i.e., CIP and line).
Maintains updated information on all relevant codes, specifications, State and local laws, etc.
Assists Plan Examiners/Engineers to achieve signoffs as needed.
Reviews laboratory tests to ensure that materials meet specifications; performs inspections.
Filing and/or renewing TCO or CO in DOBNOW system (DOB class 2 filing representative recommended )
Performs related duties as assigned.
Five years of relevant building construction experience; must have been working in any of the following areas; inspection, quality assurance, regulatory documentation, etc. or a satisfactory combination of education and experience.
An undergraduate degree in construction/project management or related technical area, plus three years of full-time experience working in any of the following areas; inspection and regulatory documentation.
A graduate degree in construction/project management or related technical area, plus two years of full-time experience working in any of the following areas; inspection and regulatory documentation.
DOB Class 2 Filing Representative Regulatory.

Electrical
Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC)
Boiler/fuel oil storage
Plumbing (Requires Master Plumbers License)

Incumbent Rate: $81,026 - $119,266

The SCA’s Building Code Compliance Division (BCC ) p romotes the safety and welfare of the New York City students, staff, and the general public by ensuring compliance with NYC Codes and Zoning regulations. Enhancing quality by providing technical support and ongoing training seminars to SCA Construction Management. BCC carries out the mission of the New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding through the highly qualified professional staff of plan examiners and inspectors. Facilitating efficient processing of Buildings Department plan reviews, permits, and sign-offs to achieve timely completion of school projects.
Job Description Summary
The Technical Inspector is responsible for inspecting regulatory documentation and field construction sites/facilities to ensure compliance with relevant construction documents, codes and standards. Technical inspectors may also complete inspection reports that identify deficiencies in the work that needs to be corrected, assist Project Officers prior to the start of construction to help clarify SCA requirements and specifications and make recommendations for improvement, and review and accept regulatory documents required for the closeout process.Job Description

Salary:
Subject to the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the appointment rate for any newly hired employee, or employees with less than two years of active City or SCA service, shall be 15% less than the applicable incumbent rate or step.

Work Experience
Three years of relevant building construction experience; must have been working in any of the following areas; inspection, quality assurance, electrician, plumber, HVAC, roofing, masonry, architectural/civil, windows and doors, regulatory documentation, etc. or a satisfactory combination of education and experience. Must have three years of experience in the specialty area to which you are applying.
