An experienced professional content writer who is adept at multiple writing styles and who thrives in a dynamic, team-based environment with latitude for solo work and professional development.You must be a Texas resident to work for the Texas Workforce Commission or willing to relocate to Texas.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
The Technical Writer performs complex to advanced (senior-level) content writing, including researching, organizing, and editing information. The Technical Writer writes and produces material for internet pages, publications, standard operating procedures, public outreach, training, and policies for the Unemployment Insurance Division. Works under general to limited supervision, with moderate to considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Teleworking after training is possible, but not guaranteed. -Communicate with diverse groups of customers across Texas, including individuals and companies.
-Rewrite complex language and jargon and into clear, concise, and easy-to-read plain language.
-Work on communication projects with team members and UI Division staff and management.
-Possibly train or supervise the work of others.
-Perform other duties as assigned.YOU QUALIFY WITH:
-Technical Writer I: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in business, English, education, or a related field is required.
-Technical Writer II: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in business, English, education, or a related field is required plus one year of full-time experience in technical writing, journalism, or communications work.
-For both levels: One year of full-time experience in technical writing, journalism, or communications work may be substituted for each year (30 semester hours) of education.YOU ARE A GREAT FIT WITH:
-One to three years’ professional experience as a writer
-Experience writing for diverse audiences, both individually and mass communication
-Strong research and interview skills
-Skilled at proofreading and editing own work as well as others’
-Strong skills in grammar, spelling and punctuation
-Experience with the AP Style Guide and/or the Chicago Manual of Style
-Strong attention to detail
-Experience in print publishing, publication design and/or web publishing
-Motivated self-starter able to conceptualize, propose and initiate new procedures and work quickly while managing multiple priorities and frequent interruptions
-Professional experience working with communications software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, and web design toolsDuty requires up to 10% travel within the state of Texas and the ability to lift 15 pounds. Will work 40 hours a week during hours of operation Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Occasional overtime (evenings, weekends, and holidays) may be required. Management will set schedule. TWC may use all available information, including past unemployment claims, to evaluate an applicant’s suitability for the position. Incomplete applications may not be considered.
