- Minimum 2 years previous experience in one or more of the following areas: student financial aid, student accounts/bursar office, customer-based accounting positions (e.g. collections, loan administration), customer service, or closely related field
- Intermediate level experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Gmail, and Google Suite (including Google Sheets)
- Bachelor's degree
- 2+ years of direct experience in a university or higher education setting, specifically in financial aid or student accounts.
- Experience with federal and state financial aid regulations (e.g., Title IV), students collections processes
- Experience with specific student information systems (SIS) and customer relationship management systems (CRM) relevant to the university (e.g., Banner, Workday, Salesforce, etc.).
- Provide financial counseling and financial aid information to students regarding the application process, needs determination, verification, and status of their financial aid application in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
- Work with the Financial Aid Office to resolve information discrepancies. Reconcile admission status with financial aid applications.
- Maintain current knowledge of federal, state, and institutional programs, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Serve as the main point of contact for students with the Financial Aid Office.
- Troubleshoot student accounts to ensure funds are received including following up with students regarding any missing documents, unit/program changes, enrollment delays, and the satisfactory academic progress appeals process.
- Assist students with various questions regarding their accounts including but not limited to payments, holds, and refunds.
- Run student account reports, analyze student accounts and records for accuracy and completion.
- Contact students regarding past due accounts and provide due diligence in collecting money owed to the university.
- Process student requests for refunds as required by federal regulations and University policies/procedures.
- Communicate to students in a clear and concise manner, update comments and document all conversations in the appropriate area of the student management system.
- Walk through the payment plan process with students.
- Work with students that are in external and internal collections.
- Contribute to student information system process improvements and troubleshooting as needed.
- Assist with additional tasks, projects and requests as needed.
- Work closely with Enrollment Counselors to ensure applicants are receiving up to date financial information as well as moving forward with the admissions process.
- Work closely with the Admissions Department to ensure prospects/applicant's questions are addressed.
- Perform general admission related tasks including tracking and follow-up to secure missing documents.
- Participate in the New Student Welcome events.
- Work closely with Success Coaches to ensure student financial aid questions are answered.
- Provide information to prospective students regarding LAPU's academic programs and calendar including the application process, financial aid programs, eligibility requirements, and military programs and benefits.
- Provide proactive outreach to students from applicant to degree conferred.
- Manage student concerns that are financial related.
- Use contact methods such as text, call and email effectively to manage efficient communications with students.
- Exceptional customer service skills including:
- Minimum 2 years previous experience in student financial aid, student accounts (bursar's office), customer-based accounting positions (e.g. collections, loan administration) or closely related field.
- Outstanding customer service skills including interpersonal and active listening skills along with an analytical and critical thinking ability to interpret and respond appropriately to diverse groups of people in various situations.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with tact and diplomacy in all oral and written communications.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and participate to get the job done, while continually focusing on the needs of the students.
- Ability to exercise appropriate personal initiative and accountability.
- Intermediate level experience in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Gmail, and Google Suite including Google Sheets.
- General familiarity working in database systems including data entry, queries, and running reports.
- Ability to accurately perform key mathematical functions (e.g. addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Familiarity with the use of standard office equipment (e.g. copier, fax, scanner, etc.).
- Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
- Proven ability to execute instructions accurately and in a timely manner.
- Strong administrative, organizational, and prioritization skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and complete tasks in a fast-paced environment amidst interruptions and fluctuating workloads.
- Must be available to work flexible hours, typically including one extended night per week
- Self-starter with the ability to work in a team-based, fast-paced atmosphere.
- Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures in a complex university setting.

The Temporary Student Accounts Specialist at Los Angeles Pacific University plays a key role in guiding and supporting our diverse student body through all aspects of financing their education. This position primarily focuses on financial aid advising and accounts receivable, while consistently providing high quality, customer-focused service to students and staff.

Compensation: Grade 6: $20.11 - $25.13 (non-exempt/hourly)
Primary work location - Remote: This position is classified as "Remote" Home Office *Employee's home office must be located in a state LAPU is registered in (AZ, AR, CA, CO, FL, GA, IL, KS, MN, MO, MT, NM, NC, OH, OR, PA, TX, TN, VA, WA, WI). The classification of this position is subject to change based on business needs, job performance, etc. If an employee changes their physical location/residence to another state it could impact future employment.
Remote Expectation: We expect our employees to be able to fulfill their LAPU responsibilities with minimal distractions. While remote work does offer flexibility, employees should make arrangements for regular dependent care during work hours.
Schedule: In order to accommodate our student's needs and schedules, candidates must be willing to work one late shift during the week during the Pacific time zone. Hours are M-F 8 am - 5:00 pm PST. One late shift per week from 10 am to 6:30 pm PST will take place between T-TH, depending on the department's needs.
