      Department Human Resources Job Summary Information session for current SMH employees and external candidates to learn more about CNA training opportunities available for SMH employeees. This information session will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 from 1-3 p.m. Location: Sarasota Memorial Hospital, 1700 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota FL 34239 2nd floor Community Classroom (Take "B" elevators to 2nd floor, Community Classroom is directly across the hall from the "B" elevators) **This event is open to current SMH employees and future employees interested in the CNA training opportunities available to SMH employees. Sarasota Memorial Health Care System offers the opportunity for interested employees to enter into the field of Health Care and receive the necessary training to help advance their clinical career. CNA candidates will be chosen based on performance in their current role and alignment with the qualifications required for the CNA training program. Potential candidates will also complete shadow time to ensure this role aligns with their goals. Option 1: Accelerated 4-week CNA training facilitated by SMH Education Department The curriculum for this training is entirely online. This program is targeted for employees who are self-directed learners able to succeed in a fast-paced, accelerated learning environment. The employee will be expected to complete the online didactic at home with check-in times set up throughout the week and will receive skills training in the simulation lab and clinical experience on specific units within the hospital. This is a four week accelerated program, with focus on online CNA training curriculum, scheduled skills training in the Simulation Lab, and one full week of Clinical hours. Option 2: 6-week CNA training at Suncoast Technical College This training is 24-hours per week of classroom training at Suncoast Technical College with clinical experience provided during the last two weeks of the training program. The class schedule is Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. This opportunity at STC is only available to employees who would be eligible for promotion into a Patient Care Technician position (not for employees who are currently in positions with the same or higher pay grade) and for employees who have resided in the state of Florida for at least one year (in order to qualify for the in-state tuition rate). Eligible employees would also need to submit their high school diploma or GED to Human Resources prior to being approved for training. This training is offered four times per year, in January, March, August, and October. FAQS: These training options require ZERO out of pocket cost to the employee. Employees are paid their regular hourly rate of pay for time spent in training out. The cost is charged to the Nursing Orientation cost center. Department Obligation: Flexible scheduling for approved employees to attend this (approved employees will have limited availability to work during the CNA training program) These employees are able to promote to positions outside of their current area, if there are no open Patient Care Technician/Multi Skilled Technician/CNA positions available for them in their current department at the end of the program. Required Qualifications Must have a high school diploma or GED. Must pass Employee Health screen which includes urine drug test (all employees of SMH must have a flu shot each year given free by Employee Health). Background check approved by SMH. Must be approved by current manager/unit for CNA training program. *Must be a current employee in good standing to qualify for this program. Mandatory Education HS EQ: High School Diploma, GED or Certificate Required License and Certs BLS: Basic Life Support/CPR for Patient Care Technician position, not required for CNA training approval Employee Benefits Reputation.
