      Job Location: Downtown Early Learning Center - Bellingham, WA
      Position Type: Part Time
      Salary Range: $18.66 - $18.66 Hourly

      Description

      POSITION PROFILE:

      The Summer Trail Blazers Coach must possess a passion for and commitment to improving the lives and opportunities for girls and boys in elementary and middle school. The Trail Blazers program provides a safe and interactive way to learn about healthy living which includes an introduction and education on important topics such as goal-setting, cooperation, and self-respect. The Trail Blazer Coach works with a team of coaches to keep kids safe on the trails and moving forward.

      Hours: 9:30a-3:00p Monday-Friday

      Must be available at least 2 of the 4 date ranges:

      July 7 - 11
      July 21 - 25
      Aug 4 - 8
      Aug 18 - 22

      Some of the key responsibilities falling within these areas include:

      • Ensure all safety procedures and best practices are enforced
      • Ensure safety of each participant and coach by providing clear boundaries and expectations
      • Identify safe trails and know running routes well
      • Drive YMCA vans safely and follow all policies and procedures regarding van use.
      • Enforce all current coaching policies
      • Maintain high visibility and accessibility with all participants, parents and volunteers
      • Follow organizations policies and procedures regarding protecting youth from abuse; including screening and selection, training and supervision, and responding to allegations. Communicate to all staff and volunteers the organizations commitment to protect youth from abuse
      • Follow mandated reporting requirements

      Qualifications


      REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

      • Seeking individuals over 21 who are comfortable driving the YMCA vehicles. Training provided. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
      • Have a positive attitude, be a team player, strong leader and manage effectively
      • Be a self-starter, have flexibility, ability to problem solve and have a willingness to learn
      • Knowledge of youth development practices, conflict mediation/resolution and restorative practices
      • Ability to work with people from a variety of different ethnic, socioeconomic, educational, religious, sexual and generational backgrounds
      • Be energetic, youth-friendly and creative with a high level of enthusiasm about providing meaningful opportunities for youth
      • Familiarity working with schools, community-based agencies, and the mission and vision of the Whatcom Family YMCA
      • Completion of Child Abuse Prevention training before working with children
