GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Our mission at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) is to serve, protect and advance the citizens and industries in the state with quality motor vehicle related services. We are a dynamic state agency dedicated to customer service, consumer protection and the success of motor vehicle-related industries.
Performs moderately complex (journey-level) accounting work in the Accounting Operations section of the Finance & Operations Division relating to the auditing, processing, and handling of purchase vouchers. Serves as a backup for processing travel voucher reimbursements and procurement card payments. Work involves various fiscal functions including vouchering, reconciling, and updating the financial systems. May train others. Works under general supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Audits accounting and financial documents related to the procurement and payment of goods and services for accuracy and compliance with agency policies and procedures and with state and federal statutes and regulations.
Audits travel documents and invoices related to employee travel for accuracy and compliance with agency policies and procedures and with state and federal statutes and regulations.
Classifies, codes, posts, and balances financial and accounting documents and records using the Centralized Accounting and Payroll/Personnel System (CAPPS) and the Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS).
Reviews invoices and ensures compliance with payment scheduling and prompt payment laws.
Ensures proper documentation is received for payments.
Reconciles accounts and vendor statements.
Performs reconciliations, researches discrepancies, and reports findings.
Reviews complex contracts for terms and conditions.
Assists in making recommendations for improvements, adaptations, or revisions to the accounting systems and accompanying procedures.
Responds to internal and external customers regarding vendor account inquiries or payment issues.
May train others.
May travel to attend and represent the Department at meetings, seminars, and conferences.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in Accounting, Business, Management, Finance or related field.
*Additional work experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
Experience
Two (2) years’ experience performing accounting, bookkeeping, payment processing, auditing or general office administration functions.

REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSURE
A valid Class "C" driver's license is required. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within ninety (90) days after entering Texas as a new resident. A satisfactory driving record is required for operating state or personal vehicles to conduct department business.
