- Review and document prior authorization and concurrent stay requests.
- Evaluate member case history in compliance with policies and procedures, clinical criteria (MCG), and member coverage.
- Interface remotely with members, providers, facilities, medical directors, intake staff, case managers, and other internal departments.
- Determine the medical necessity of post-acute stays using clinical judgment and MCG criteria.
- Route cases to the medical director for denial if the member no longer needs care.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing.
- 3-5+ years of clinical experience.
- 1+ year of previous utilization management experience employed by a Payor/3rd Party Managed Care Organization.
- Experience utilizing MCG or InterQual guidelines is highly preferred.
- Active, unrestricted RN license required from any state (must be located in MN/WI but does not need to be licensed there).
- Demonstrated clinical assessment skills with the ability to think critically and make evidence-based decisions.
- Self-motivated, autonomous worker with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Technology-savvy with the ability to work within multiple computer applications.
Utilization Management Nurse
Job Description
As a Utilization Management Nurse - Post Acute, you will be responsible for reviewing and documenting prior authorization and concurrent stay requests, as well as member case histories, in compliance with policies, procedures, clinical criteria (MCG), and member coverage. This role requires remote interfacing with members, providers, facilities, medical directors, intake staff, case managers, and other departments internally. Attention to detail and clinical judgment are essential to determine the medical necessity of post-acute stays, including skilled nursing facilities, acute inpatient rehabilitation, and long-term acute care.

Work Environment
This position is remote, working 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm (possible adjustment to 7:30 am to 4:00 pm). The role is initially approved as a 6-month contract, with the potential for extension or conversion. Candidates must reside in Wisconsin or Minnesota and have a secure workspace. A maximum of 5 days off is allowed during the contract. Comprehensive training includes 2 weeks of hands-on experience with a trainer and ongoing support through Microsoft Teams chat. Equipment provided includes a laptop, two monitors, keyboard, mouse, headset, and docking station. All calls are conducted through the computer with specific internet speed requirements: minimum upload speed of 5+ Mbps, download speed of 25+ Mbps, and ping less than 100MS.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $38.00 - $45.00/hr.
