Job Description

- Installs and removes gas meters, meter settings, and regulators; inspects and tests service and house lines for leaks.
- Uses test instruments as required to install, service, and adjust all gas appliances.
Investigates gas service inquiries, such as no gas, leaks, gas odor, blowing gas, fires, explosions, and high bills. - Advises plumbers, contractors, and prospective customers on service and house line installations.
- Will turn gas on /off for customers.
- Collects delinquent bills; reads meters; locates, cleans and repairs curb boxes.
- Uses pressure gauges to test for line leaks and gas detection instruments to locate leaks.
- Successful candidate must have the ability to understand and apply mechanical principles and demonstrated skills in the use of hand tools;
- Experience reading/interpreting gauges and dials is preferred.
- Experience in the plumbing trade with natural gas experience and current OQ plumbing qualifications preferred.
- Must have strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated success in providing extraordinary
customer service, particularly in situations where tact and diplomacy are needed. - Must be detail-oriented and able to follow through on assignments with little or no direct supervision;
- Must be able to work effectively under changing priorities and conditions; be able to prepare legible, complete, and accurate orders; be able to understand oral and written
communications; have a valid driver's license and a safe driving record and must have a high school diploma or equivalent - Requires 18 months experience as Field Technician or Service Technician or equivalent work experience.
- Must have a mechanical aptitude and be able to use various types of hand tools needed for repair of field facilities.
- Must be able to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) and certification to operate company trucks under DOT/Ohio Motor Carrier Safety Regulations for intra-state drivers.
- Experience of 24 months operating earth-moving equipment with knowledge of underground construction practices preferred.
- Must be able to prepare and maintain legible records.
- Must be able to perform basic math calculations, prepare legible records and understand written and oral communications.
- Must have ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Must be able to pass applicable field and service strength tests as well as general aptitude testing.
- Must be dependable in terms of adherence to deadlines and presence on the job.
- Requires skill in reading/interpreting gauges & dials.
- Must be able to be certified to wear self-contained breathing apparatus.
- Must be able to work overtime and respond to emergency call-outs.
- Working knowledge of DIS and WMS is preferred.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations concerning pipeline safety and underground construction practices preferred

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Includes all of the duties normally performed by a Service Technician (see below) as well as acting as lead employee over one or more employees engaged in pinpointing leakage, making repairs, and replacing services or portions of mains
Operates all light earth-moving equipment, such as backhoe, side boom, tamper, and hydra- crane. Duties include maintenance of said equipment (including cleaning, greasing and lubricating) and transportation of equipment and/or materials. Other duties include those performed by a Utility Technician on tie-ins, leakage repair and other construction operations.
Additional responsibilities may include establishing or re-establishing service to a customer, including testing and inspecting service/house lines and lighting appliances according to policy/procedures and approved codes, transfers, disconnects, reads/rereads, meters, locates/repairs curb boxes, removes active and inactive meters, or disconnects gas service at meter or curb box. Responsible for the installation and removal of gas meters, meter settings, and regulators.Service Technician Responsibilities:

Successful candidate must complete Plant and Service training program and be able to pass Customer Service A test within 12 months of training.
