U.S. Communications Specialist, Cities4Forests

Job Description

- Lead on developing communications materials such as blogs, articles, social media posts, web pages, media hits, summaries and brochures, and emails that advance the goals of the entire portfolio
- Identify and develop compelling stories from our projects, selecting the best avenues for storytelling on a case-by-case basis
- Develop materials to support communications outreach, such as talking points for media, topic briefs, and other materials
- Assist with fundraising efforts through writing, editing, and reviewing grants and other documents
- Plan and execute state- and region-specific communications strategies regarding nature, restoration, and climate resilience that clearly outline goals, audiences, key messages, communications assets, and timelines
- Regularly review and update developed strategies as needed
- Maintain consistent contact with Cities4Forests project leads, partner organizations, and other relevant stakeholders to identify communications priorities, needs, and opportunities
- Collaborate with the Communications Manager to ensure consistent messaging across the portfolio
- Track communications tasks, milestones, and other key information via Asana
- Schedule and lead meetings with team members, partners, and stakeholders as needed to advance communications activities
- Education: You have completed a bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, environmental studies, or related field
- Experience: You have minimum of 3 years full-time relevant work experience in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field
- Experience in covering topics such as environmental issues and natural resource management preferred
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with experience creating audience-specific editorial content
- Must be able to demonstrate a portfolio of published written work that exhibits an ability to write for various audiences using different formats
- Experience and ability to develop and execute successful communications strategies
- Strong project management skills
- Experience with email marketing and social media marketing is a plus
- Experience engaging with news media is a plus.
- Languages: Proficient in spoken and written English. Spanish language skills a plus

This position will be hybrid requiring 8 days a month in the WRI Washington DC office . Existing work authorization is required at the time of application submission; WRI is unable to sponsor any visa work sponsorship for this position.
About the Program:
Cities4Forests, an initiative led by the World Resource Institute, is a global alliance of more than 90 cities using nature to enhance the resilience of people nature, and climate. We help to create data-driven policies, deliver capacity and technical support, and facilitate the flow of finance to nature-based projects for the benefit of forests and nature near and far. In the United States, Cities4Forests’ US Lands team provides technical assistance and strategic guidance on innovative conservation finance models; policy enhancement; political engagement; economics and cost-benefit analyses; gender and social equity; mapping and technology; monitoring, evaluation, and learning; and more. The US Lands program works closely with federal, state, and local land management agencies, water and power utilities, public and private financial institutions, Fortune 500 companies, civil society and conservation organizations, and local communities and Indigenous groups.
Job Highlight:
Reporting to the Cities4Forests Communications Manager, you will lead communications and outreach efforts as part of our United States restoration and resilience portfolio. You will collaborate with Cities4Forests team members and partners to deliver communications products such as articles, blogs, project highlights, social media content, email, web pages, and events to advance project goals. We are looking for candidates who are excellent writers, experienced conveners of conversations and events, and effective collaborators with a wide range of stakeholders. Critically, you will tell local stories to a wide array of audiences to show the value of conservation finance and the role of nature in wildfire resilience, water security, community safety, equity, and more. You will be supported by Cities4Forests team members dedicated to this stream of work, including our conservation finance team and U.S. project leads. You will also work closely with other partners such as utilities, local and national NGOs,
businesses, investors, state and federal agencies, Tribal Nations, and more.

What will you need:
Potential Salary: Salary range is between 69,000 and 73,000 USD. Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors. WRI offers a competitive renumeration and benefits package.
