      EAST MUSKINGUM SCHOOLS Job Description JOB TITLE: Athletic Coach BOARD APPROVAL DATE: January 9, 2004 REPORTS TO: Building Principal SUMMARY: Teach sport activity to individual or groups at a public facility or school by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Serves as a positive role model for students. Explain and demonstrate use of apparatus and equipment. Observe students during practice to detect and correct mistakes. Explain and enforce safety rules and regulations. Organize and conduct competition and tournaments. Explain and demonstrate principles and techniques relating to the individual sport. Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance. Complete all required forms and paperwork in a timely manner. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage 1 to 12 subordinate supervisors who supervise 1-10 employees including the assistant coaches, managers, and other department staff, Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. USER-DEFINED: The employee must have basic knowledge of board policies and procedures. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND /OR EXPEREINCE: Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) with a major in the field identified for this position from four-year college or university is preferred. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports, lesson plans, and other written communication for parents, students, and administrators. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, administrators and parents. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Ohio teaching certificate, if possible. Must possess a valid, CPR card and Pupil Activity Validation Permit and additional OHSAA requirements Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license or be able to transport self to school athletic events that include travel in the district, in the county, in the region and state. The employee will be using either Macintosh or Windows based computers and related technology on a regular basis.
