From day one, our mission has been to create an independent business with a unique culture – one that is controlled by the people who work for it. Finding the most talented and entrepreneurial people has always been key to our success.

People come to Howden Group Holdings for lots of different reasons, but they stay for the same one: our culture. That’s what sets us apart, and why we nurture and retain the best talent in the market. Whatever your priorities – work/life balance, career progression, sustainability, volunteering - you’ll find like-minded people driving change at Howden Group.

      About Us:

Howden Ventures is a new team within the Howden Group which is being established to invest in early stage insurance start-ups and supports these investments with capacity, distribution, product design and technological advisory. We are seeking a Venture Scout to join our team to focus on sourcing, introducing and monitoring potential investment and partnership opportunities.

      Role Overview:

As a Venture Scout, your primary responsibility will be to identify and introduce potential investment opportunities to the team. You will play a crucial role in bridging relationships between start-ups and our fund, contributing to the growth and success of both sides. You will also be responsible for managing and maintaining the deal flow through a dedicated scouting platform, ensuring the team is proactively engaging and maintaining relationships with start-ups.

      Key Responsibilities:

      • Opportunity Sourcing: Proactively identify and source early-stage insurance start-ups that align with our investment thesis and themes.
      • Due Diligence: Conduct initial due diligence on potential investment opportunities, including summarising details on the management team, business model, market potential, and competitive landscape, for the investment team to review.
      • Industry Research: Stay updated on emerging trends, technologies, and themes within the insurance and start-up landscape to drive informed scouting efforts.
      • Scouting Platform: Build and maintain a scouting platform to track, monitor, and evaluate opportunities systematically.
      • Networking and Relationship Building: Attend industry events, conferences, and networking gatherings to represent the brand, initiate conversations, and establish connections with entrepreneurs and other industry professionals.
      • Internal Collaboration: Build relationships internally to help support internal broking and underwriting teams.
      • Communication: Present ideas and approach strategies to the team on a weekly basis.
      • Technical Support: Possess the technical knowledge to engage in meaningful conversations with entrepreneurs and provide them with initial guidance.
      • Brand Representation: Represent Howden Ventures accurately and positively at various events and interactions, maintaining a high level of professionalism and integrity.
      • Efficiency and Organization: Demonstrate exceptional organizational skills to manage a dynamic workload, often away from the desk.

      Requirements:

      • Experience: A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in insurance, finance and/or origination, or related fields.
      • Network: Strong existing network within the insurance industry and start-up ecosystem is preferred.
      • Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and concisely.
      • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with relevant technology and tools for tracking, analysing, and presenting opportunities.
      • Emotional Intelligence: Demonstrated ability to establish rapport and gain entrepreneurs' trust through emotional intelligence and effective communication.
      • Brand Representation: Ability to represent the company's values, mission, and ethos professionally and positively.
      • Adaptability: Thrive in a fast-paced and evolving start-up environment, embracing change and uncertainty.
      • Education: A relevant bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

      Why Join Us:

      • Impact: Play a pivotal role in shaping the success of early-stage start-ups within the insurance industry.
      • Networking: Establish meaningful connections within the start-up ecosystem and insurance industry.
      • Autonomy: Enjoy the autonomy to drive scouting efforts and make a significant impact on our investment portfolio.
      • Professional Growth: Gain exposure to venture capital, due diligence, networking, and industry trends, contributing to your personal and professional growth.
      • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with a diverse and driven team passionate about innovation and start-up success.

We want people who want to make a difference - not just in the workplace, but in the industry and in the wider community.

      Our Culture: People First

We are proud to be at the global table, but we are most proud of our culture. It has been built on a single and constant set of principles over more than 25 years, and it has helped us become:
