- Head the Global Medical Affairs function spanning the global organization inclusive of all therapeutic areas.
- Accountable for review and approval of Medical Affairs Strategic Imperatives and Tactics for Brand Plans including all outputs of Medical Affairs such as data generation strategies, publications, IITs, field-based strategies, etc. Ensure that Medical Affairs resources and activities are appropriately focused to deliver on Global and Regional plans.
- Ensure strong collaboration and optimal resource utilization between global and regional medical teams.
- Lead the implementation of medical affairs program strategies and assure high quality execution of medical affairs activities.
- Facilitate scientific engagement across a broad range of stakeholders to gather insights and dissemination information.
- Provide strategic input and tactical guidance for scientific publications, including publication plans, manuscripts, abstracts and poster presentations.
- Support teams on conference activities, advisory board meetings, strategy planning, patient educational materials, speaker training and evaluation.
- Responsible for optimizing Global Medical Affairs policies, processes, vendor selection and management, staffing, and budget. Responsible for setting departmental objectives, developing, and tracking key activities and communicating to executive leadership status of objectives.
- Review and approval of promotion and scientific materials.
- Provide Medical expertise to the R&D organization to drive medical value and differentiation.
- Provide Medical expertise to the Commercial organization to assist in the development and execution of compliant commercial activities.
- Support medical due diligence for product licensing and acquisition.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Comprehensive knowledge of global medical affairs activities with in-depth knowledge of US, European and Asian requirements.
- Experience in a pharmaceutical environment with strong knowledge of relevant compliance and regulatory environment.
- Expertise in Neuroscience (psychiatry or neurology), Nephrology and/or Immunology therapeutic areas.
- Proven track record in the areas of medical strategy, product launches, field based MSL team development, medical communications and thought leader engagement.
- Ability to lead, inspire and influence a global team, functioning in a matrix structure, through vision and strategy setting.
- Self-reflective and aware of their own limitations, a great listener, open to feedback and self-improvement.
- Demonstrated business acumen; excellent people management and leadership skills, able to manage complex technical organizations.
- A proven ability to execute and get results through leading others whilst leading by example.

- MD, DO, PhD, PharmD or equivalent degree with minimum of 15 years’ experience in biotech, pharma or related areas with at least 5 years of leadership experience.
- Experience leading medical teams in US, European and Asian markets.
Job Summary
Otsuka is seeking a strategic, dynamic, and innovative Vice President, Global Medical Affairs. By anticipating industry trends, understanding clinical insights, and identifying unmet medical needs, the Vice President, Global Medical Affairs will ensure the delivery of high-quality products and solutions. At Otsuka we are leaders in neuroscience and nephrology, we are driven by science with a patient-centric and team-oriented culture.
In collaboration with executive leadership, the Vice President, Global Medical Affairs will define medical affairs strategy and goals, develop and implement Medical Affairs plans, policies and procedures while maintaining excellence in standards and practice. The Vice President, Global Medical Affairs will advance collaborations with key opinion leaders and oversees plans for scientific engagement with health care practitioners, research groups, payers, and patient advocacy groups.
This instrumental role provides thought leadership and oversight for the following functions within global medical affairs: medical strategy, medical communications, medical education, medical operations and field medical affairs. The incumbent will work closely with both the R&D and commercial organizations to deliver innovative solutions to patients.

Minimum $318,108.00 - Maximum $457,280.25, plus annual incentive: The range shown represents a typical pay range or starting salary for candidates hired to perform the work. Other elements may be used to determine actual salary such as the candidate’s job experience, specific skills, and comparison to internal incumbents currently in role.
