      Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role the Vice President, Global Procurement is accountable for all aspects of the source to pay process at Amgen. In addition to leading our sourcing strategy, procure to pay process, and supplier relationship management program, this leader will be at the forefront of impactful transformation work for the enterprise and function. Success requires leading both the development of strategic plans as well as the execution of these plans to drive efficiencies and ensure performance across the ~$10B indirect spend base. The role involves close partnership with Amgen's core business functions – Corporate Functions, ATMOS (Amgen Technology and Medical Organizations), R&D, Commercial and Operations (Manufacturing, Process Development, Quality, Supply Chain, Engineering) – to deliver savings targets and capture value through effective category management, active engagement in company-wide productivity programs, and robust relationship management.

      With a global scope of responsibility, the VP will provide inspirational leadership to a team of sourcing professionals located at essential business sites, including corporate headquarters, commercial sites, R&D, and manufacturing locations. As the leader of the Global Procurement Organization, the VP will ensure that procurement strategies and standards are in full alignment with Amgen's overarching business strategy and ambition while maintaining the highest level of ethics and compliance.

      This executive role requires a strategic leader who is an innovative problem solver capable of effecting change on a global scale. The VP will be tasked with aligning both regional and global teams to maximize the achievement of sourcing objectives and ensure seamless operations across the business. The role calls for an individual who can provide inspirational leadership, drive a transformation and continuous improvement mindset, foster cross-functional collaboration, and exert influence at all organizational levels.

      Key Responsibilities:

      • Vision and Alignment: Articulate and champion a strategic vision for the sourcing organization that aligns with the broader vision of Global Procurement Organization as part of Amgen's overarching strategy especially as it relates to Technology and Workforce Strategy. Ensure all initiatives and efforts contribute to the company's long-term goals and objectives.

      • Transformation Mindset: Continue to challenge team members to find opportunities for continuous improvement and to raise the bar for performance. Partner with other key stakeholders to ensure that we are maximizing the value of different levers through innovative opportunities.

      • Strategic Leadership and Stakeholder Engagement: Spearhead global business engagement with key internal and external stakeholders Lead a high-performing team of sourcing leaders overseeing approximately $10B in spend categories.

      • Productivity and Business Strategy Integration: Drive the productivity agenda by leveraging market insights and functional expertise. Lead the team in aligning sourcing strategies with business objectives, enhancing efficiency, and maximizing value creation.

      • Procure-to-Pay (P2P): Comprehensive understanding and expertise in end-to-end P2P processes, controls, and proficiency in managing and optimizing P2P systems.

      • Innovation and Supplier Management: Foster innovation and performance excellence through a robust supplier relationship management program. Integrate category strategies with risk management, ensuring sustained high performance and risk mitigation.

      • Sustainability and Diversity: Embed Supplier Diversity and Sustainability into all category strategies, promoting inclusive and environmentally responsible sourcing practices.

      • Organizational Structure and Resource Prioritization: Continuously evaluate and optimize the organizational structure. Prioritize resources and strategic initiatives to maximize team effectiveness and engagement.

      • Governance and Strategic Forums: Actively participate in governance forums at both the business function and initiative levels. Ensure transparent decision-making and strategic alignment across the organization. Stay abreast of key trends in the industry with external partner relationships and bring those ideas to the forefront at Amgen.

      • Program Management and Results Orientation: Instill a sense of urgency and accountability through rigorous program management. Drive measurable results, ensuring the timely and successful execution of all initiatives.

      • Talent Recruitment and Development: Attract, mentor, and develop top talent. Create an environment where staff can achieve their career aspirations, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.

      • Relationship Building and Collaboration: Develop and sustain productive relationships with business partners and suppliers. Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to drive organizational success.

      • Cultural and Organizational Evolution: Drive a collaborative, and accountable team culture to help to evolve the organization and its culture. Create a welcoming environment for stakeholders and a rewarding atmosphere for staff, promoting engagement and satisfaction.

      • Strategic Sourcing Execution and Compliance: Ensure the sustained execution of progressive global sourcing strategies, policies, procedures, and compliance. Stay attuned to strategic shifts within the company and supply markets, adapting strategies accordingly to maintain competitive advantage and operational excellence.

      Basic Qualifications:

      • Doctorate degree and 8 years of sourcing experience OR

      • Master’s degree and 10 years of sourcing experience OR

      • Bachelor’s degree and 12 years of sourcing experience AND

      • 8 years of direct managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience managing teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

      Preferred Qualifications:

      • At least 12 years of senior leadership experience in sourcing functions or significant roles in business operations within a publicly held company with revenues exceeding $10 billion and/or a spend base of at least $5 billion

      • A bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field. An advanced degree (MBA or equivalent) is highly desirable

      • Experience transforming service delivery models and leading through substantial organizational change, demonstrating the ability to drive strategic initiatives in complex environments

      • Ability to lead and inspire teams across diverse geographic locations, adapting leadership styles to suit varying team dynamics and cultural contexts

      • Supplier Management and Procure-to-Pay (P2P) experience and expertise

      • Thought leadership in enhancing productivity through innovative and progressive methods, with a history of successfully navigating and managing change within large corporate or multinational settings

      • Experience in sourcing within R&D and Manufacturing sectors, with a deep understanding of industry-specific challenges and opportunities

      • Experience in leading large, geographically dispersed teams within a global organization, displaying leadership capabilities and cultural adaptability

      • Ability to excel in fast-paced, results-oriented, and data-driven environments with an emphasis on collaboration, teamwork, and driving measurable outcomes

      • Interpersonal and teamwork skills, coupled with analytical and organizational abilities to manage complex projects and initiatives effectively

      • Written, presentation, and communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas and strategies clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences

The annual base salary range for Vice President opportunities in the U.S. is $307,500 - $512,500.
