      IT@JH Office of the CIO is seeking a VP and Deputy CIO who will be reporting to the CIO of Johns Hopkins University, the Deputy CIO is responsible for developing and maintaining the information systems and services that support the academic mission of the university as well as many general-purpose IT systems and processes that serve the broader Johns Hopkins community. This position collaborates extensively with Provost's Office, school Deans, Divisional Business Officers, and other senior leadership involved in Education, Research, Student Affairs, and Administrative organizations. Acts as the primary partner to these leaders in supporting the pursuit of the performance and service ambitions of the organization through enterprise platforms and systems.


      Direct reports include Director of University Information Systems, Director of Data Analytics, Director of Research IT, Director of Project Management and IT Governance, and over 100 indirect reports.


      Specific Duties & Responsibilities

      • Works closely with their senior academic and administrative colleagues across the university to ensure that services are provided in a cost-efficient, innovative, and synergistic fashion.
      • The primary external relationships include the areas under the provost’s office, the schools and major academic units, and the major administrative areas.
      • Responsible for major and highly complex IT applications for all centrally supported academic systems, including those that impact student administration, faculty data, research administration, and research IT support. This includes strategy development and planning, budget development and accountability, and ensuring appropriate security and technology coordination across IT@JH.
      • Supports a wide range of general-purpose IT systems focused on collaboration, workflow optimization, and digital innovation.
      • Leads the IT and data governance processes for the university, coordinating project and program management activities and developing strategic roadmaps in conjunction with the various University IT governance chairs.
      • Works collaboratively with the Information Technology Investment Working Group (ITIWG) in the review, prioritization, and financing of projects
      • Will consolidate and modernize the University’s approach to data analytics, working with functional area data owners, data stewards, and analytic support staff across the organization.

      • University-wide workflow and collaboration tools (Docusign, Zoom, etc.)
      • University IT governance and strategic planning.
      • University data governance.
      • University data analytics.
      • Coordination of project and program management activities for IT@JH.


      Position Scope

      • Lead change in a complex, historically decentralized academic organization with nine schools and multiple institutes, academic centers, as well as student affairs and university administration offices.
      • Support for hundreds of distinct systems, processes, and integrations that serve over 26,000+ students, 8,700+ faculty, and 16,000+ staff.
      • Project and program management coordination across the other divisions within IT@JH.
      • A major expansion of central research IT support, including coordinating activities across the schools and other divisions within IT@JH.
      • A focus on consolidating and modernizing the University data analytic functions, working in tandem with functional areas and IT staff.
      • Dependencies on other senior IT colleagues within IT@JH who manage the IT infrastructure supporting the academic systems.

      Minimum Qualifications
      • Bachelor's Degree in a related field (advanced degree preferred) and ten years of progressive experience in senior information technology management positions.
      • Prior management experience in developing and leading high-performance technology professionals.
      • Experience in a university or university-affiliated organization, preferably with a medical or health sciences component.
      • Experience with sensitive data sets, including the application of relevant compliance and regulatory frameworks.

      • Advanced Degree in a related field.

      Starting Salary Range: Min: $281,250 - Max: $375,000 Annually; (Commensurate with experience)

      JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
