What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Oversee and supervise the wildlife research program in Southeast Alaska
- Lead and mentor research staff while ensuring scientific quality and integrity of research projects
- Manage the research program budget, ensuring compliance with federal aid program requirements
- Collaborate with regional leadership to set staffing and budget priorities for wildlife management
- Present biological data and analytical results to various audiences, including scientific peers and the public
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Bachelor's degree in biology, limnology, biometrics, oceanography, forestry, or natural resource management
- One year of advanced professional level biologist experience
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor mid-career professional biologists
- Strong organizational and administrative skills, with experience in Pittman-Robertson federal aid program requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain Wildlife Chemical Immobilization and Wildlife Capture and Handling Certifications, CPR, and First Aid training
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience supervising professional biologists, including mentoring and evaluating work
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement complex wildlife research programs
- Broad knowledge of wildlife biology, including population dynamics and habitat requirements
- Strong skills in writing, reviewing, and publishing peer-reviewed research
- Familiarity with the Pittman-Robertson federal aid program compliance
