      Description

      Join Bogus Basin's growing Sustainability team and help shape a better future! As a participant in the National Ski Area Association's Climate Challenge, Bogus Basin is committed to taking climate action and encouraging our community to do the same. Under the direction of the Sustainability & Stewardship Coordinator, the Winter Sustainability Technician will support our daily sustainability tasks as well as community sustainability events and education programs.


      Essential Functions of the Job

      • Sorting and transporting recyclable and compostable materials around the mountain.
      • Delivering waste diversion materials to our partners in the Treasure Valley via a truck and trailer.
      • Maintaining waste stations and their signage.
      • Performing a seasonal waste audit.
      • Developing and/or supporting sustainability events, such as free gear repair workshops and climate action presentations.
      • Providing support and data analysis in our annual greenhouse gas reporting.
      • Assisting with coordinating and communicating with volunteers.
      • Maintaining plant propagations.

      Non-Essential Functions of the Job

      • Surveying guests to gauge perception and effectiveness of sustainability programs.
      • Using hand and power tools to assist in brush clearing along snowshoe trails.
      • Leading occasional youth winter environmental education programs.
      • Other duties as assigned.

      Requirements

      Education & Experience Requirements

      • Some academic or professional background in sustainability, environmental science, environmental education, conservation, leadership or similar field.
      • Preferred- Degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Biology, Botany, or similar field preferred.
      • Preferred- Basic CPR/First Aid certification, Wilderness First Aid certification or higher.

      Additional Requirements

      • Must be at least 20 years of age and have a valid driver's license
      • Ability to safely operate a truck and trailer in wintry conditions both on the mountain and in town.
      • Passion for the Bogus Basin Mission.
      • Excellent science communication skills (verbal & written).
      • Desire to care for open spaces and the environment.
      • Ability to thrive as a member of a team.
      • Ability to ski or snowboard on up to intermediate terrain.
      • Able and willing to communicate with public about their role at Bogus Basin.
      • Background check required.

      Physical

      • Lifting and carrying items up to 50lbs.
      • Hiking in snowshoes both on and off trail for up to 4 miles.
      • Operate vehicles including vans, trucks, trailers, four-wheelers and side-by-sides.

      Working Conditions and Schedule

      Environment

      • Majority of the time is spent outdoors for long periods of time in all weather conditions

      Schedule

      • This position is 40 hours per week. Schedule will be either M-F (8hrs/day) or M-Th (10hrs/day), with with occasional required weekends.
