      Department Overview:

      Communication Arts offers two tracks of study at the undergraduate level: Rhetoric and Communication Science, and Radio-TV-Film. At the graduate level, degrees are offered in Media and Cultural Studies, Rhetoric, Politics, & Culture, Film, and Communication Science. We teach media production courses as well as critical studies.

      The Wisconsin Film Festival curates, promotes and exhibits programs that showcase the art and history of world cinema. We support the UW-Madison's teaching, research, and public service mission by exposing rhe campus and the greater community to films and filmmakers from Wisconsin and beyond.

      Minimum: 10 Maximum: 15

      Schedule:

      Students can choose shifts and locations for the Festival Box Office, April 9 - 16. Some shifts available pre-Festival. All new Box Office staff must attend a training session. 10-15 for the week of the festival.

      Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

      Minimum: $15.00

      Qualifications:

      • Exceptional customer service skills
      • Excellent communication skills.
      • Pleasant demeanor and ability to maintain integrity under pressure (when dealing with rush lines, sold out situations, VIP’s and filmmakers).
      • Ability to manage cash and credit card payments. Previous retail sales experience is a plus.
      • Able to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
      • Previous Box Office experience is ideal; previous experience with online ticketing platforms is a plus

      Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

      • Exceptional customer service skills
      • Excellent communication skills.
      • Ability to manage cash and credit card payments. Previous retail sales experience is a plus.
      • Able to multi-task in a fast paced environment.

      Position Summary/Job Duties:

      • Serve as Festival Ambassadors, greeting and assisting filmmakers and guests of the Fest, and advising patrons about films and providing Festival guidance
      • Open Box Office at start of day at assigned venues
      • Sell and print tickets
      • Process charge card payments and take checks and cash in compliance with University procedures
      • Keep accurate records of sales
      • Close Box Office at end of day or, during Festival, after the start of the last movie of the day

      Physical Demands:

      Must be able to sit at the Box Office station for the entire shift. Breaks are allowed, of course.
