- Provides direct writing support to students, faculty, staff and other patrons through tutoring, workshops, online support or other writing support as directed by the supervisor. Maintains record of writing support.
- Works on special projects to support the Writing Center such as mentoring and evaluating peer/professional tutors, assisting faculty volunteers, creating and updating supplemental resources that enhance programs or other projects as assigned by supervisor. Gathers, verifies, and maintains information to support periodic and special reports.
- Attends staff meetings to exchange information. Attends professional seminars, conferences and/or observes Daytona State College classes to improve academic and/or professional skills. Maintains a current knowledge base of the assigned disciplines to be able to prepare and conduct orientations, training and/or workshops.
- Ability to relate to and work with students individually and/or in small groups.
- Exercise good judgment and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Strong organizational skills; ability to work in a multiple-task environment.
- Promote positive student, faculty and staff relations as well as relate to the adult student population.
- Knowledge of computer software programs including Microsoft Office Suite; assist students with conducting Internet research.

Offering more than 100 certificate, associate and bachelor’s degree programs, Daytona State College (DSC) has responded to the education and workforce training needs in our region for more than 60 years. The college enrolls nearly 25,000 students annually at its seven instructional sites, with graduates serving in critical fields including health care, emergency services, business, education, hospitality, engineering, technology and more.We currently have an opportunity to join our team of talented and diverse Faculty and Staff as a Writing Specialist.
Required Qualifications: This position requires a bachelor’s degree in English, Composition & Rhetoric, Education, or a closely related field and two (2) years of related work experience.
Working Hours: Work hours will vary between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Evening and weekend hours are required as needed. Work schedule may vary from week to week and work hours may differ, as needed on a daily basis.
Please note: Responsibilities of this position may require travel for assignment to any Daytona State campus (Daytona, DeLand, Deltona, New Smyrna, and Flagler/Palm Coast).
