- Safely prepare and serve snacks or meals to Academy Scholar Athletes
- Clean and maintain the Academy’s teaching kitchen
- Utilize DC Central Kitchen’s food tracking documents to record attendance data and food safety requirements
- Oversee kitchen inventory and supplies
- Assist with set-up and break-down of Academy teaching kitchen
- Help guide and give feedback to the Academy’s Food Access Programming
- A high school diploma, required; a ServSafe Food Manager Certification and BA in nutrition, dietetics, or public health OR enrollment in a related course of post-secondary study, preferred;
- Strong attention to detail; willing to learn new information through hands-on experience
- Organized manager of professional time and effort and ability to document work
- A computer, internet access, and a cell phone for internal staff communication
- Reliable transportation
- The ability to lift 30 pounds (may require other light [physical activity)
- The ability to stand/walk around at the market for 5 hours with minimal opportunities to sit down
- The ability to work outside in all weather conditions, year round
- Demonstrated problem solving ability, creativity, and resourcefulness.
- School year work hours: 2:30pm-7:30pm Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays; 5:30pm-7:30pm on Mondays. Late June to early August work hours: 8am-2:30pm
- Office: Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Position may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
The Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy is seeking a highly motivated individual to support the organizational mission of contributing to a healthier community and combating food insecurity. The ideal person for this role has a passion for addressing issues of food insecurity, creating access to healthy food, engaging the community and youth, plus preparing and serving meals. The Health and Nutrition Coordinator will prepare and serve food for the Academy’s after-school program, ensure the upkeep and cleanliness of the Academy’s teaching kitchen, and help coordinate the distribution of food during the Academy’s YBA PLAY Program. The Health and Nutrition Coordinator will also track and document the number of snacks and meals distributed on a daily basis and prepare the necessary documentation for food safety risk management.

Compensation:
The projected wage rate for this position is $18.00 per hour. Actual pay is based on several factors, including but not limited to the applicant’s: qualifications, skills, expertise, education/training, certifications, and other organization requirements. Starting salaries for new employees are frequently not at the top of the applicable salary range.
