An Accountant II is responsible for managing and reporting a variety of financial data, ensuring compliance with budget appropriations. Additional responsibilities include grant compliance, grant monitoring, and grant reporting. Daily activities include recording deposits, performing credit and travel card compliance reconciliations, preparing costing reports, and handling accounts payable responsibilities.

  • Prepare financial reports, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
  • Manage all sheriff grants: federal, state, and private.
  • Prepare budget journals and assist with budgeting tasks.
  • Assist with preparation of the sheriff's annual budget.
  • Manage numerous special revenue funds.
  • Prepare deposits for asset seizure funds, monitor activity and submit annual reports.
  • Maintain and reconcile procurement cards; reconcile and process accounts payable invoices.
  • Prepare monthly invoices for policing contracts, special detail, false alarms, and evictions.
  • Serve as backup for payroll specialists and maintain confidentiality associated with FMLA, ADA, and disciplinary action.
  • Technical software proficiency, including Excel. Workday system software knowledge is a plus.
  • Analytical thinking with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to interpret data and create reports.

Education Required:

  • Requires completion of a Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in accounting.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to operate general office machinery, including but not limited to a copier/scanner.

The candidate must possess attention to detail, strong communication and organizational skills, and have technological proficiency with modern tools in accounting software, including spreadsheets.
