Application Programmer

Genesis10 is currently seeking a Red Hat Linux Administrator for a remote contract position with a Global Financial Institution. This is a 12+ month contract opportunity.

This role involves supporting a large-scale Hadoop ecosystem of over 5000 servers running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). The ideal candidate will be responsible for OS lifecycle management, including patching and upgrades, while leveraging strong automation skills with tools like Ansible and BladeLogic. This position requires hands-on troubleshooting and the ability to operate effectively in a high-availability enterprise environment.

Responsibilities:

• Perform OS lifecycle management, including software installations, kernel patching, system updates, OS upgrades, and library management
• Manage and maintain Linux file systems, ensuring performance, capacity, and integrity
• Execute and automate patching and vulnerability remediation using BladeLogic, Ansible, and shell scripting
• Develop automation solutions to optimize repetitive operational tasks and improve efficiency
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to OS failures post-patching, system performance degradation, and filesystem inconsistencies
• Perform system failure analysis, recovery, and root cause analysis (RCA)
• Support hardware and software configuration management
• Provide production support and incident resolution in a large-scale distributed environment

Requirements:

• 8+ years of hands-on experience in Linux system administration in enterprise environments
• Strong expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8.x / 9.x, including OS patching, upgrades, and system hardening
• Proficiency in automation and scripting with Ansible, BladeLogic, and Bash / Shell scripting
• Experience managing large-scale environments (1000+ servers preferred)
• Strong experience with Linux builds, provisioning, filesystem management (LVM, XFS, etc.), and performance monitoring and tuning
• Experience with RedHat OpenShift and Hadoop
• Experience working in remote / distributed team environments

Desired skills:

• RHCE (Red Hat Certified Engineer) certification
• Experience with the Hadoop ecosystem (Cloudera / Hortonworks or similar) and enterprise system management tools
• Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking and client-server architectures
• Familiarity with remote server management tools (iDRAC, IPMI, Redfish, etc.)
• Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills in production environments

Pay range: $55.06 - $63.06 per hour
