Assistant Controller
We are partnered with a growing organization seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join its accounting leadership team and play a key role in supporting the continued growth and development of the accounting function.
This individual will play a key role in overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, strengthening accounting processes and controls, and supporting the continued evolution of the finance and accounting function.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting leader who combines strong technical accounting fundamentals with the ability to manage people, improve processes, operate effectively in a complex environment, and partner closely with senior finance leadership.
Key Responsibilities

  • Support the overall accounting function, including month-end and year-end close, general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and consolidation activities.
  • Help lead an efficient and accurate monthly close process, ensuring deadlines are met and financial information is complete and reliable.
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and other key accounting activities.
  • Support the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reporting.
  • Provide oversight and guidance across accounting processes within a multi-entity and/or multi-location environment.
  • Partner with accounting leadership to establish, maintain, and continuously improve accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, and documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, increase efficiency, strengthen controls, and create greater consistency across the accounting organization.
  • Assist with annual audits and serve as a key point of contact for external auditors and other third-party partners.
  • Research and provide guidance on accounting matters as needed, ensuring appropriate application of U.S. GAAP.
  • Support accounting system enhancements, integrations, automation initiatives, and other finance transformation projects.
  • Partner cross-functionally with finance and operational stakeholders to resolve accounting issues and improve the flow and accuracy of financial information.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop members of the accounting team while establishing clear expectations and accountability.
  • Support senior finance leadership with special projects and other strategic accounting initiatives as the organization continues to evolve.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • CPA or progress toward CPA certification strongly preferred.
  • Approximately 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including meaningful experience in a leadership, supervisory, or accounting management capacity.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, general ledger accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, and the month-end close process.
  • Experience working within a multi-entity, multi-location, or similarly complex accounting environment strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience improving accounting processes, strengthening internal controls, and creating scalable procedures.
  • Experience supporting external audits and working directly with auditors.
  • Strong systems aptitude and comfort working with ERP and financial reporting systems.
  • Experience leading and developing accounting professionals.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment with competing priorities.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable being both hands-on in the details and capable of operating at a broader leadership level.
