Overview:

The Engineering Technician Intern is responsible for supporting the engineering team in field activities related to the NESC service violations project. This position provides a hands-on learning experience in electrical engineering practices, data management, and customer interaction.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Although not supervising others, the intern is encouraged to develop leadership skills through proactive involvement in project tasks and team meetings. As their experience grows, they could potentially lead small components of projects.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Conducts field inspections of electrical installations to ensure compliance with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).
• Inputs field data accurately into company databases and assists in the administration of daily contracts.
• Assisting with field visits to gather measurements, photos, and site information.
• Learning how to design overhead and underground electric distribution facilities.
• Reviewing maps, construction drawings, and utility records.
• Helping prepare job packages, construction prints, material lists, and work orders.
• Entering and maintaining project information in company software systems.
• Assisting with customer service requests, service upgrades, relocations, and new service installations.
• Learning Ameren standards, safety requirements, and utility construction practices.
• Supporting cost estimates, project tracking, and documentation activities.
• Working closely with experienced Engineering Technicians to develop technical and field knowledge.
• Assists customers with resolving problems or questions related to the projects, demonstrating professionalism and effective communication.
• Participates in project meetings, contributing to discussions and sharing insights from field activities.
• Engages in cross-training across various facets of the Engineering Division to enhance skills and prepare for future professional opportunities.
• Cross-train in all facets of the Engineering Division, preparing to fill in for anyone absent and grow in responsibility and scope over time.
• The person in this role will uphold the culture of Utilitra, including relationship building with customers and general behavior on Utilitra or client premises or at Utilitra-sponsored events.

Requirements/Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a degree in engineering or a related technical field focusing on electrical principles and methodologies.
• Demonstrated ability in using Microsoft Office tools effectively for data management and report creation.
• Strong verbal and written communication abilities, essential for interacting with team members and assisting customers with inquiries.
• A willingness to work collaboratively in a team setting, contributing to project goals and sharing insights.
• Comfortable working in various outdoor environments, which includes navigating different terrains and adapting to varying weather conditions.
• Open to traveling to project sites, including staying overnight when required, to meet the role's demands.
• Possession of a valid driver's license, enabling you to travel to different project locations as needed.

Physical Requirements:

• Requires the physical ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and navigate different terrains at project sites.
• Involves standing, walking, and potentially carrying light equipment during field audits.

Travel Requirements:

• Depending on the project location and scope, travel to nearby project sites may be required, including the rare occasion of overnight stays.
