Job Summary

The Financial Analyst is a senior contributor within the Group Reinsurance Administration team, supporting Stop Loss Captive reinsurance programs. This role splits responsibilities between monthly captive reporting (accruals, submissions, and source file preparation) and process improvement and workflow optimization for the Excess Reinsurance team, including automation and AI-enabled enhancements. The analyst ensures accurate, timely reporting in accordance with governing treaties and collaborates with internal partners (Reinsurance Accounting, Finance, Actuarial, EBG, Stop Loss) and external stakeholders (reinsurers, captive managers).

Key Responsibilities

Monthly Captive Reporting (First 10 Business Days)

  • Prepare monthly stop loss captive reporting, including internal accruals and external submissions.
  • Manage assigned source files (primarily the captive policy list) during the first five business days of each month.
  • Apply treaty rules and business logic to validate and reconcile data.
  • Produce submission reporting by treaty year once financial close is complete.
  • Follow established checklists and documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Process Improvement & Excess Reinsurance Support (Second Half of Month)

  • Partner with the Excess Reinsurance manager to evaluate highly manual workflows and identify opportunities for automation, streamlining, or offloading to India Operations.
  • Review and improve existing documentation (currently 80 pages) to ensure clarity, accuracy, and usability.
  • Use AI tools (Copilot, Claude) to brainstorm, prototype, and test workflow improvements.
  • Support Data Iku migration efforts as the team transitions away from Access databases.
  • Recommend and help implement redesigned workflows that reduce manual effort and improve turnaround times.

Required Skills

  • 5–8 years of insurance experience in a finance/actuarial/accounting/operations role, including Reinsurance Operations/Administration role experience.
  • Advanced Excel proficiency, including complex formulas, large datasets, multi-tab workbooks, and strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Solid understanding of reinsurance concepts, including group ceded reinsurance structures such as coinsurance and YRT.
  • Ability to interpret reinsurance treaties and clearly understand the obligations and requirements of both the ceding company and reinsurers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with large datasets, including leveraging automation or AI tools to improve efficiency.
  • Comfort using AI tools (Copilot, Claude) to streamline processes, build prompts, and support workflow redesign.
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and a strong focus on accuracy, with the ability to see the big picture.
  • Strong analytical mindset with ability to see both the big picture and underlying drivers.
  • Confident, inquisitive, and comfortable asking questions and offering process feedback.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal direction.
  • Strong written communication skills required. Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner with foreign reinsurers, captive managers and management. Partnerships with Stop Loss Captive programs are high-profile relationships.
  • Team oriented, patient, and collaborative — fits well within a supportive, high-performing group.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Employee Benefits Group products (Life, Disability, Health, Stop Loss).
  • Familiarity with Data Iku, SQL, Python, or R.
  • Background in medical stop loss, group benefits, supplemental health, or ceded reinsurance.
  • Actuarial student background or actuarial style analytical mindset.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business, Actuarial Science, or Mathematics required.

Required Experience

  • 5–8 years of insurance experience in a finance, actuarial, accounting, or operations role, with Reinsurance Operations/Administration role experience.

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Hybrid work arrangement — 3 days onsite per week.
  • Flexible work hours (8–4, 8:30–4:30, or 9–5).
  • Tier 1 background check required.
