The City of Torrance is recruiting for a Administrative Assistant who is PUBLIC SERVICE oriented and attentive to DETAIL to be part of the Torrance Team!
The Position
Administrative Assistants play a key role in supporting a department's mission to provide a superior level of public service and interdepartmental support in the most practical and competent manner possible. As a key ambassador to the department’s mission, this position is critical in its contributions to productivity. This position performs advanced administrative and clerical duties requiring independent judgement and discretion and may provide training and/or direction to less experienced office support staff.
Although the Administrative Assistant position is utilized throughout different departments in the City, t he current vacancies are in the City Manager's Office , Police Department , and Community Services Department .
There is currently one vacancy in the City Manager's Office. The essential duties of this position include processing invoices for payment, preparing and managing purchase orders and contracts, making travel arrangements and registering management staff for conferences, assisting in the coordination and logistics of special events, maintaining office service requests and projects, and providing administrative support of a general nature to multiple managers.
The Cultural Services Division of the Community Services Department is seeking an Administrative Assistant who has exceptional administrative skills to prepare correspondence, agenda items, and reports; process various documents, forms, and invoices; ability to multitask and oversee multiple projects at one time; social media, answer phones, respond to general inquiries; coordinate special events and activities in the department, and provide administrative support of a general nature to multiple managers.The Torrance Police Department is seeking an Administrative Assistant who will be responsible for coordinating the department's purchasing and procurement activities for the Department and serving as liaison with City Purchasing and Finance. The Administrative Assistant reports to the Senior Business Manager.

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
Graduation from high school or equivalent and three (3) years of increasingly responsible clerical and customer service experience. Specialized training in office skills and effective use of standard office software is highly desirable .
License and/or Certificates
Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License and safe driving record may be required for assignment to some positions in the classification.

Written Test: Weighted 40% ( Tentatively scheduled February 8 through February 13, 2024 )
Panel Interview: Weighted 60% ( Tentatively scheduled on February 27, 2024 )
