DEQ has an open opportunity for an Administrative Specialist II.

      * It is full-time (40 hours per week) with State Benefits *
This position currently qualifies for a hybrid telework option with routine office and remote workdays. The NC Department of Environmental Quality trusts our employees to be self-motivated and successful in hybrid/remote roles. Telework options are subject to change at the discretion of management.

This position is critical to the division's main office for administrative duties, office management, and accounting and budgeting functions. The addition of two new programs, the Flood Resiliency Blueprint Program and the Natural Flood Infrastructure Mitigation Program, has substantially increased the size and flow of funds, transactions, contracts, payments, and employees. The programs were established by legislature as the primary mechanisms to improve the state's flood resiliency. The programs currently have a combined budget allocation of $120,000,000 with continued additional funding expected as the program expands to additional river basins.

      Key Responsibilities:
      • Verifying, coding, balancing, maintaining, and reporting manual and automated records related to fiscal, or business data as needed to assist the budget officer.
      • Schedule all meetings for Division Director and Division Deputy Director
      • Assist in developing and implementing agency policies and procedures related to the areas in financial management.
      • Prepare documents and reports, compile records, organize and maintain files, post information, distribute mail, and photocopying.

      The Division of Mitigation Services:

The N.C. Division of Mitigation Services' (DMS) mission is to provide cost-effective mitigation alternatives that improve the state's water resources. This NCDEQ division is responsible for providing compensatory mitigation statewide for streams and wetlands that are impacted by development and transportation projects as well as for riparian buffers and nutrient loading in some areas of the state. The program must provide all planning, implementation and disposition associated with restoration, enhancement, creation, and preservation project sites in 54 cataloging units (in 17 river basins) in the state. The DMS manages the development of comprehensive mitigation projects worth $40-80 million annually. The products produced by this program facilitate approximately $2 to $3 billion in statewide infrastructure improvements annually. Failure to provide mitigation can impact water quality, habitat, and other important watershed functions. The DMS influences North Carolina's economic growth, environmental protection, and quality of life.
The NC Department of Environmental Quality:

The primary mission of the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is to provide science-based environmental stewardship for the health and prosperity of all North Carolinians.
