      Emergency Management and Climate Readiness (EMCR) is the lead coordinating agency in the provincial government for all emergency management activities. EMCR works directly with local governments, Indigenous Nations, provincial ministries and agencies, federal departments, other jurisdictions, industry and volunteers in hazard mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.

      The Emergency Support Services (ESS) Regional Planning Officer Leads and facilitates development and maintenance of regional ESS capacity and strategies in partnership with First Nations, Local Governments, non-government organizations (NGOs), and emergency response agencies. This position also provides leadership in the ESS Branch of the Provincial Regional Emergency Operations Centre (PREOC) during activation.

      Job Requirements:

      Education and Experience

      • Bachelor’s Degree in planning, public, emergency management, business administration or social science field, or a related field, AND
      • A minimum of two (2) years of related experience*.
      • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
      • *Related experience must include all of the following:
        • Facilitating the development of emergency/disaster management plans with multi-partner groups including First Nations, Local Government and/or NGOs.
        • Designing and conducting qualitative and quantitative research.
        • Participating in and/or managing operations in an emergency coordination environment.
      • Preference may be given to applicants who have any of the following:
        • Experience working with and engaging with First Nations communities and/or organizations.
        • Experience with emergency software applications (e.g., Web EOC).
        • Experience working with Emergency Support Services or Social Service programs.
        • Risk management certification / designation.
        • Project management certification / designation.


      Applicants must be willing and able to:

      • Be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments, and corporate structures.
      • Work on-call and work on-site and extended hours during emergency activations.
      • Travel occasionally.

      About this Position:
      Amendment (May 27): Posting close date extended to May 31.
      There are two (2) positions available.
      Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
      Flexible work options may not be available during emergency operations response periods.
      These are temporary opportunities until December 1, 2025 based in Kamloops or Prince George. These temporary opportunities may be extended or become permanent.
      An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies in Kamloops, Nelson, Prince George, Saanichton, Smithers, Surrey, and Victoria .
      Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
