What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Advance reclamation projects to address public health, safety, and environmental hazards from abandoned coal mine lands
- Draft environmental documents for proposed actions to mitigate hazards
- Assist in obtaining funding and rights of entry for reclamation activities
- Ensure compliance with Virginia's state reclamation plan and relevant regulations
- Conduct fieldwork, including navigating rough terrain and operating engineering equipment
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Knowledge of scientific, regulatory, and engineering principles related to coal mine reclamation
- Ability to manage the implementation of federal and state reclamation rules and regulations
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with attention to detail in proofreading
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to handle multiple responsibilities
- Capability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience with engineering design, environmental assessment, and grants development
- Familiarity with property ownership determinations and construction cost estimates
- Skills in operating and maintaining 4-WD vehicles
