What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Conduct field inspections and review animal health documentation and permits
- Investigate alleged violations and collect samples for disease surveillance
- Provide education and technical assistance to farmers, veterinarians, and regulated communities
- Participate in emergency preparedness and response activities related to animal disease or agricultural incidents
- Collaborate with state and federal partners while supporting Vermont's livestock industries
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Associate's degree or higher in animal science, biological science, or a veterinary assistance program and one (1) or more years of experience in livestock farming or management
- Alternatively, a high school diploma or equivalent with two (2) or more years of experience in livestock farming or management
- Ability to handle potentially dangerous animals and zoonotic pathogens in the field
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently
- Capacity to manage emotional reactions and differences of opinion in a professional manner
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience in emergency response activities related to animal health or agriculture
- Familiarity with compliance and regulatory processes in agriculture
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration
- Background in veterinary assistance or animal health programs
