      What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
      - Provide legal advice and representation related to records requests under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)
      - Conduct legal research, prepare legal opinions, and draft ordinances and resolutions
      - Assist in defending lawsuits filed against the City and advise on legal issues for City boards and commissions
      - Review records requests from various City departments and ensure compliance with FOIA
      - Support the Collective Bargaining legal team as needed, advising on contract provisions and negotiations

      What is Required (Qualifications):
      - Juris Doctor degree from a law school of recognized standing
      - Eligibility to practice law in the Commonwealth of Virginia, or ability to become authorized within eight months of appointment
      - Previous experience with processing and reviewing records requests under FOIA
      - Strong legal writing skills and experience in conducting legal research
      - Ability to work efficiently with IT applications specific to FOIA, such as Gov QA and Adobe Pro

      How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
      - Experience dealing with inquiries from the public, staff, and local governing bodies
      - Familiarity with municipal government law and practices
      - Demonstrated ability to draft legal opinions and ordinances effectively
