      Position Description

      The School of Mathematics and Computational Sciences at Eastern University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning January or August 2026. We seek an educator who is eager to join a forward-thinking, mission-driven academic community dedicated to faith, reason, and justice.
      Candidates should hold a PhD in data science, artificial intelligence, computer science, or closely related area. Those with a Master's degree and significant industry or teaching experience will also be considered. Faculty will teach in 24-30 credits per year, in both undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in machine learning, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, or related fields.
      Candidates will be responsible for contributing to Eastern's rapidly growing online graduate programs in data science and applied artificial intelligence. Faculty are expected to engage in course development, teaching, and revision. Special consideration will be given to those with prior teaching experience, particularly with success in hybrid or online teaching. Additional faculty responsibilities include scholarship, advising students, program administration, committee service and departmental and university activities.

      Position Responsibilities

      • Faculty responsibilities include 24-30 credit course load per year in Computer Science, Mathematics and Data Science classes at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
      • Additional faculty responsibilities include scholarship, advising students, program administration, committee service and departmental and university activities.

      Qualifications

      • PhD or MS in data science, artificial intelligence, computer science, or closely related area.
      • Excellence in teaching and mentoring students.
      • Demonstrated experience in machine learning, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, or related fields.

      Part-time Regular staff who are scheduled 30-36 hours per week over the course of a year, receive a full benefit package based on their part-time scheduled hours. Healthcare coverage is based on the ACA medical coverage guidelines. Affiliate faculty receive a benefit package as outlined with their covenant. Adjunct faculty may be eligible for medical coverage under the ACA after an annual one year lookback review.

      Part-time staff who are scheduled to work less than 30 hours per week schedule are eligible for employer contribution towards the retirement plan after one year of employment. Eligibility rules apply. Adjunct faculty may make employee deferral contributions towards the retirement plan.

      Part-Time Graduate Assistant Coaches are eligible for participation in the Tuition Remission Coaches Program.

      Temporary, Contractors and Seasonal Employees: Individuals in this status are scheduled on an as-needed-basis and are not eligible for participation in the University's benefits programs.
