      Position Highlights

      This continuing eligible, Assistant/Associate Agent, 4-H Youth Development position is responsible for the 4-H Youth Development Program for Navajo County Cooperative Extension and will work with 4-H Youth Development at the state and national level. This position will be responsible for the recruitment, training, certification, and development of 4-H Volunteers. This person will be required to develop and implement positive youth development programming for Navajo County youth through non-formal educational opportunities and work with traditional 4-H clubs and non-traditional youth programs. This person will also provide support and management of the 4-H club program.

      Duties & Responsibilities

      Program Development

      • Conduct systematic analysis of national, Arizona, county and local data - including local resources and historical information - in order to identify assets, community needs, and opportunities to grow and strengthen the 4-H Youth Development program.
      • Identify, pursue and obtain resources such as grants, contracts, in-kind contributions, and gifts to develop and enhance programs.
      • Develop an annual plan of work in cooperation with 4-H staff, County Extension Director, local 4-H leaders/volunteers, community groups, advisory boards, and other Extension professionals.
      • Consult with Extension faculty, program coordinators, and other experts in the youth development field for applied research and scholarly work opportunities.

        Program Implementation
      • Builds and conducts innovative programming, utilizes new technology, and engages in problem solving research to address priority needs for the target audiences.
      • Prepares educational materials, evaluation instruments, teaching materials, and publicity information in support of local, community, regional, county and state initiatives.
      • Function as a resource for 4-H staff and other agencies/organizations on positive youth development. Promotes interaction and cooperation among various groups.
      • Disseminates educational materials through regional, county-wide and multi-county events, workshops, websites, newsletters and other mass media methods to volunteers, families and partners.
      • Participates in statewide working groups to develop new and creative programming efforts.
      • Recruits, trains and recognizes adult volunteers and youth and supports them in conducting educational programs.
      • Promotes communication and teamwork with county and state Extension faculty/staff and other youth professionals.
      • Promotes Cooperative Extension as the outreach arm of the state land-grant university.

      Program Results

      • Conducts program design, implementation, delivery, management and evaluation of applied youth and adult development research.
      • Communicates program results to professional peers and clientele through periodic reports, scholarly works, and various other publications (e.g., bulletins, fact sheets, popular articles, state publications, curriculum, scientific articles, social media, and video).
      • Counsels with County and State 4-H staff and the County Extension Director to evaluate program effectiveness and personal achievements as an Extension faculty member.

      Contributes to the University of Arizona and County Cooperative Extension

      • Participates in statewide working groups to develop new and creative programming efforts.
      • Functions as a resource for 4-H staff, other agencies and organizations on positive youth development and promotes interaction and cooperation among various groups.
      • Collaborates with colleagues at the University and in other Extension units on joint efforts such as the Cooperative Extension conference, strategic planning, needs assessments, and events.
      • Participates in regional, national professional organizations to share and disseminate research and extension findings.
      • Performs as a collegial member of Arizona Cooperative Extension and its affiliate organizations.

      • Maintains professional competence through study, participation in professional activities and the application of knowledge and skills on the job.
      • Maintains high ethical and professional standards.
      • Promotes public understanding and support for Extension and University programs.
      • Familiar with 4H STEM programs including XR Farming, Robotics, Underwater Robotics, Space Command, Sustainable Energy, Tech Changemakers, and Ag Innovators.
      • Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and evaluate educational programming.
      • High competency and expertise in the subject matter of youth development.
      • Demonstrated proficiency in people related skills such as teaching, problem analysis, conflict management, communications, human relations, and leadership development.
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
      • Desire and capability to work with diverse youth and volunteer audiences, exhibit a positive view of others and their capabilities, and be sensitive and understanding while working with peers and community members.
      • Possess self-confidence and be entrepreneurial.
      • Optimize time management.
      Minimum Qualifications
      • Master's Degree related in youth development, education, social work, leadership, or other related fields.
      • Two years of applicable professional experience.
      • Experience in design, implementing, and evaluating education programming.
      • Experience in the subject matter of youth development and people related skills such as teaching, problem analysis, conflict management, communications, human relations and leadership development.
      • Experience in working with diverse youth and volunteer audiences.
      • Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy . Must be able to provide own transportation and be able to travel statewide using all modes of transportation.
