Lead annual US R&D environmental prediction and support sites in meeting targets, funding projects, and project development.
Liaison on behalf of US R&D with Global Sustainability/SHE and external partners to improve communications and align on environmental sustainability efforts.
Integrate best practices to optimize energy, water, waste use/generation across the US R&D sites. Leverage these practices to reduce site operating budget costs and meet Ambition Zero Carbon Energy.
Support energy management systems across the US R&D sites
Direct the development, communication, delivery, and evaluation of the environmental sustainability strategy for the Gaithersburg site.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to drive coordinated environmental sustainability management plans.
Deliver internal and external communication strategies utilizing multi-media platforms to promote broad awareness of environment and sustainability initiatives and performance.
Lead the Gaithersburg Energy Management System and applicable certification programs, including ISO 50001/SEP.
Establish natural resource usage reviews to prioritize efforts, communicate status, and track progress of site environmental impact reduction efforts. Review outcomes of implemented natural resource conservation projects and identify proactive measures to reduce usage and improve efficiency.
Develop and monitor KPIs, goals, objectives, and targets for environment and sustainability management. Communicate performance metrics and strategy to applicable internal stakeholders, driving collaboration to successfully meet targets.
Prioritize and implement improvement plans with defined objectives, targets and responsibilities to support the environmental sustainability strategy. Identify priority capital projects and applicable financial incentives for natural resource reduction initiatives.
Maintain awareness of advancing technology and innovations in safe workplace training and practices which impact employee safety and health, the environment, and external perceptions of the company.
Coordinate tracking of progress against ORD environmental sustainability targets.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Environmental Science, or similar field required;
5+ years of experience in engineering or environmental/sustainability-related roles.
The role has responsibility for leading the environmental sustainability portfolio for the Gaithersburg campus while also advising on environmental sustainability projects across US R&D sites, coordinating and tracking progress against all global Oncology R&D (ORD) environmental sustainability goals and objectives. The role reports to the Senior Director, SHE. This role will oversee the continued certifications and accreditations for the campus’ energy and other environment and sustainability initiatives, seeking additional certifications as applicable. This role will coordinate efforts with the applicable AstraZeneca governance teams, making recommendations for additional activities to reduce the environmental impact and improve sustainability of the business. The role will collaborate with Site Operations teams and other internal stakeholder groups to prioritize and coordinate short, medium and long term initiatives. This role will collaborate with outside peer networks, identifying trends and new technologies that can be implemented at the Gaithersburg campus. The role will also be responsible for the effectively communicating the strategy and objectives for the environment and sustainability programs to the campus population, external networks and local regulatory agencies. Additionally, this role will be responsible for meeting all AZ environmental sustainability objectives and targets, ensuring the outside service providers meet performance levels and negotiate contracts directly related to the delivery of the environmental sustainability program.
The role will:
Advise the Senior Director, SHE; Executive Director, US R&D Operations; ORD Chief Operating Officer on environmental sustainability objectives, projects, risks, and issues across the organization.
