      Summary:

      The Cleveland Museum of Natural History (CMNH), founded in 1920, is located in the heart of University Circle, five miles east of downtown Cleveland, Ohio. Considered one of the finest institutions of its kind in North America, the Museum offers an incredible visitor experience, attracting roughly 325,000 visitors a year. There are more than 140 public education programs and over 70,000 students served annually. The Museum employs about 160 people.

      Building on its strong foundation of excellence in education and research, the Museum is poised to transform itself. The Museum will invite and engage a broader audience in the exploration of science and the natural world by revolutionizing the way it presents natural history. The Museum has launched a capital campaign to support a dramatic renovation and expansion of its facilities and exhibits. This ambitious plan will position the Museum to play a leading role in regional and national efforts to improve science education and increase scientific literacy.

      Description:

      The Audio Visual (AV) Manager is responsible for the management, maintenance, and continuous enhancement of audio-visual (AV) technology for the museum’s exhibits. The primary responsibilities include overseeing the design, installation, and upkeep of AV systems, ensuring they meet world-class standards. The AV Manager will collaborate with exhibit designers and curators to seamlessly integrate AV elements into the guest experience.

      Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation)

      • Review the design and oversee the installation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of AV equipment for the museum’s exhibits.
      • Remain current on the latest AV trends, ensuring the museum’s technology reflects world-class standards and offers visitors a state-of-the-art experience.
      • Daily oversight of AV exhibit technology, including diagnosis, troubleshooting, system or interactive re-booting and other measures when exhibit system computers freeze, loses video, loses audio, loses touch, etc.
      • Supervise and train/mentor one (1) AV Service Technician with possibility to grow the team in the future
      • Verify the exhibits are starting and operating correctly and following up to correct any issues encountered.
      • Develop an exhibit log to document when problems occur and when maintenance has been performed to simplify future modifications and troubleshooting. This should also include an inventory of the spare equipment which will need to be updated when the spares are used.
      • Develop, implement, document, and maintain effective AV technology maintenance policies, procedures, and programs. To include preventative maintenance on all lighting, sound, computer, wireless, structured cable, video display boards and other facility audio-visual equipment.
      • Oversee and provide cause for proper control and care of lighting, sound, computer, wireless, structured cable, and audio-visual equipment and manage inventories of supplies, spare parts, shop tools and equipment.

      Qualifications:

      • Bachelor's degree in Audio-Visual Production, Information Technology or a related field.
      • 6-8 years of experience in managing AV systems, preferably in a museum or interactive environment.
      • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
      • Strong understanding of exhibit infrastructure, building technology and AV systems.
      • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
      • Knowledge of sustainable AV practices.
      • Exceptional communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
